Order Sons of Italy Garibaldi Lodge
President Luigi caci
Buona Sera a Tutti. As your President I would like to welcome each
of you to the Sons of Italy - Canadian Italian Business Professional
Association (CIBPA) 24th Annual Gala dinner.
Vince Lombardi once said, “Leadership is the capacity to translate
intention into reality and sustain it”. The Sons of Italy is ever grateful
for the leadership that is shown by everyone who regularly attends and supports our charity Gala as
well as all our corporate sponsors and advertisers. The proceeds that we all help to raise will allow
the Sons of Italy to sustain and maintain its philanthropic efforts, making each and every one of us
leaders in our community.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our dinner committee, chaired by Tom De Nardi and
Franco Petrelli. This elegant evening is no small accomplishment; it is planned, coordinated and
executed by a small group of dedicated volunteers in just four short months. These individuals give
passionately and selflessly so that the Sons of Italy can continue to make a real difference where it
matters in our communities.
Our Gala dinner has supported such worthy charities as the Manitoba Theatre Centre, United Way,
Victoria Hospital, Canadian Museum of Human Rights and the Health Sciences Centre FoundationKleysen Institute for Surgical Innovation. Over the past twenty years the Order of Sons of Italy
Garibaldi Lodge has donated in excess of $500,000 to many worthy causes.
This year the Sons of Italy are especially pleased and proud to be partnered with the Amadeus
Steen Foundation, our charity of choice, as well as the Scotiabank group, our title sponsor. In
2009, the Amadeus Steen Foundation has provided rooms, facilities and equipment at the
Children’s Hospital for the children and their families. As you may be aware this Foundation is
named after the late son of Winnipeg hockey legend Thomas Steen and his wife Mona.
Congratulazioni to Charles Sherbo this year’s recipient of the CIBPA Professional award and the
Aura Group, this year’s recipient of the CIBPA President Award. I know our Brothers are truly
honoured in recognizing both Charles and the partners of the Aura Group for their tremendous
success and dedication to our community.
Many thanks in advance to our keynote speaker of the evening, Tony Esposito, one of the NHL
hockey greats. We look forward to his keynote address and being entertained by a hockey story
or two.
Buon divertimento,
Luigi (Lou) Caci

greetings
La Lupa Di Roma President
Tonina fiorentino
Auguri and congratulations to our brothers of the order
Sons of Italy: Garibaldi Lodge on their 24th successful gala
celebration! The charity of choice for this year, the Amadeus
Steen Foundation is one close to all our hearts and most worthy of being selected.
As a first year president of the sister lodge, La Lupa di Roma, it is a wonderful feeling to be
able to support worthy causes. This year the sisters of the Lodge are proud to have donated
to the Children’s Rehabilitation Hospital, Camp Manitou, Rossbrook House, as well as
helping to build a primary school in Laos by supporting the School for Kids in Laos Inc.
In October we happily invited children from Camp Quality and their families to our annual
Halloween celebration fundraiser, with all proceeds being donated to the Children’s Hospital
of Winnipeg. Then once again this November we collected over 20 bags of gently used
winter wear for the United Way in the Koats for Kids Drive. The members of our Lodge are
very hard working dedicated ladies who have hearts of gold and never hesitate to help
those in need.
We are very proud of our scholarship recipient, Susana DeLuca, a charming, young lady
who we know will give back to the community who so believes in her future.
Together with the members of La Lupa di Roma Lodge, I look forward to undertaking
exciting community projects that will fill our calendars and hearts with pride.
A nome della Lupa di Roma auguro buona fortuna ai nostri fratelli per il successo di questa
bellissima serata!
Yours truly,
Tonina Fiorentino

greetings
from the Prime Minister
The Right Honourable
Stephen Harper
It is with great pleasure that I extend my warmest greetings to
everyone attending the 24th annual Sons of Italy/CIPBA Garibaldi Lodge
fundraising gala.
I am certain that everyone attending this evening’s dinner will
enjoy the presentation of keynote speaker, former Chicago Blackhawk, Mr. Tony
Esposito. A Hockey Hall of Fame Inductee, Calder Trophy winner and three time
Vezina Trophy winner, Tony “O” was a pioneer of the butterfly style who helped
lift “The Curse of Muldoon” from the Black Hawks. As you are entertained by the
reminiscences of number 35, you will also derive great satisfaction in knowing
that tonight’s proceeds will benefit The Amadeus Steen Foundation and its efforts
to support Manitoba's Children’s Hospital.
I would like to commend the Sons of Italy for making this eagerly
awaited event possible. It is heartening to know that your efforts are making a
positive and lasting difference in the health and well-being of your fellow citizens.
On behalf of the Government of Canada, please accept my best
wishes for a most enjoyable evening, as well as every success in reaching your
fundraising goals.

As Mayor of Winnipeg, it is my pleasure to extend greetings to all participants and
guests of the Sons of Italy 24th Annual Gala Dinner: A Magical Evening with The Sons
of Italy.
The Order of Sons of Italy, Garibaldi Lodge, along with the Winnipeg chapter of the
Canadian Italian Business Professional Association and 2010 partner – The Amadeus
Steen Foundation have organized a truly magical event combining our City’s rich
Italian culture, music and cuisine, our renowned love for the sport of hockey and
community philanthropy and generosity Winnipeggers are renowned for. It is sure to
be an exciting evening and I want to thank all of this year’s event organizers for their
hard work and dedication, once again, to create an unforgettable evening in Winnipeg.
I would also like to thank The Sons of Italy for their commitment to promote,

Vice Consul of Italy in winnipeg
Stanislao Carbone
I am pleased to have the opportunity to offer greetings to the
Sons of Italy.
From its inception this organization has created social and cultural programs not only within
the context of Italian Canadian life but also which transcend this reality and respond to the
needs of Canadians of all social and ethnic backgrounds. This cannot but strengthen cultural
pluralism and civil rights both of which are fundamental to a democratic society.
societa` democratica.

Vince Bova Memorial Award
In 1997, one of our beloved
brothers, Vince Bova, passed away
after a long battle with cancer. To
know Vince was to know a man who
exemplified the spirit of The Sons
of Italy. He was committed to the
club in a manner that was beyond
compare.
He could always be found at social functions, volunteering his time
and energy. He was a man who never asked for any credit, but was
always willing to lend a hand and share a smile.
In Vince's memory, we now present this annual award to a member
who works diligently behind the scenes as a dedicated participant in
The Sons of Italy.
