At the Scotiabank Group, we bring the same commitment to enriching our communities as we do to helping our clients reach their personal and financial goals. Through our partnership with local organizations, we continue to build vibrant communities where we live and work. We are honoured to be a sponsor of The Sons Of Italy Annual Gala. Thank you for the opportunity to participate. greetings Order Sons of Italy Garibaldi Lodge President Luigi caci Buona Sera a Tutti. As your President I would like to welcome each of you to the Sons of Italy - Canadian Italian Business Professional Association (CIBPA) 24th Annual Gala dinner. Vince Lombardi once said, “Leadership is the capacity to translate intention into reality and sustain it”. The Sons of Italy is ever grateful for the leadership that is shown by everyone who regularly attends and supports our charity Gala as well as all our corporate sponsors and advertisers. The proceeds that we all help to raise will allow the Sons of Italy to sustain and maintain its philanthropic efforts, making each and every one of us leaders in our community. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our dinner committee, chaired by Tom De Nardi and Franco Petrelli. This elegant evening is no small accomplishment; it is planned, coordinated and executed by a small group of dedicated volunteers in just four short months. These individuals give passionately and selflessly so that the Sons of Italy can continue to make a real difference where it matters in our communities. Our Gala dinner has supported such worthy charities as the Manitoba Theatre Centre, United Way, Victoria Hospital, Canadian Museum of Human Rights and the Health Sciences Centre FoundationKleysen Institute for Surgical Innovation. Over the past twenty years the Order of Sons of Italy Garibaldi Lodge has donated in excess of $500,000 to many worthy causes. This year the Sons of Italy are especially pleased and proud to be partnered with the Amadeus Steen Foundation, our charity of choice, as well as the Scotiabank group, our title sponsor. In 2009, the Amadeus Steen Foundation has provided rooms, facilities and equipment at the Children’s Hospital for the children and their families. As you may be aware this Foundation is named after the late son of Winnipeg hockey legend Thomas Steen and his wife Mona. Congratulazioni to Charles Sherbo this year’s recipient of the CIBPA Professional award and the Aura Group, this year’s recipient of the CIBPA President Award. I know our Brothers are truly honoured in recognizing both Charles and the partners of the Aura Group for their tremendous success and dedication to our community. Many thanks in advance to our keynote speaker of the evening, Tony Esposito, one of the NHL hockey greats. We look forward to his keynote address and being entertained by a hockey story or two. The charity of choice for this year, the Amadeus Steen Foundation is one close to all our hearts and most worthy of being selected. As a first year president of the sister lodge, La Lupa di Roma, it is a wonderful feeling to be able to support worthy causes. This year the sisters of the Lodge are proud to have donated to the Children’s Rehabilitation Hospital, Camp Manitou, Rossbrook House, as well as helping to build a primary school in Laos by supporting the School for Kids in Laos Inc. In October we happily invited children from Camp Quality and their families to our annual Halloween celebration fundraiser, with all proceeds being donated to the Children’s Hospital of Winnipeg. Then once again this November we collected over 20 bags of gently used winter wear for the United Way in the Koats for Kids Drive. The members of our Lodge are very hard working dedicated ladies who have hearts of gold and never hesitate to help those in need. We are very proud of our scholarship recipient, Susana DeLuca, a charming, young lady who we know will give back to the community who so believes in her future. Together with the members of La Lupa di Roma Lodge, I look forward to undertaking exciting community projects that will fill our calendars and hearts with pride. A nome della Lupa di Roma auguro buona fortuna ai nostri fratelli per il successo di questa bellissima serata! Warm regards, PIAZZA DE NARDI Sam Katz Mayor of Winnipeg www.sonsofitaly.ca 2010 Sons of Italy/CIBPA Gala Dinner 13 greetings Vice Consul of Italy in winnipeg Stanislao Carbone I am pleased to have the opportunity to offer greetings to the Sons of Italy. From its inception this organization has created social and cultural programs not only within the context of Italian Canadian life but also which transcend this reality and respond to the needs of Canadians of all social and ethnic backgrounds. This cannot but strengthen cultural pluralism and civil rights both of which are fundamental to a democratic society.
