Saturday, May 7, 2016 Golden Valley, MN Sponsorship Opportunities animalhumanesociety.org/walk Walk for Animals Why Support this Event? The Walk for Animals, now in its 42nd year, is the largest human/animal walk in the Upper Midwest and one of the largest in the country. It’s also Animal Humane Society’s largest fundraising event. As a private, nonprofit organization, we receive no federal, state or government funding and rely solely on private donations, adoption and program fees, merchandise sales, and special events. The Walk celebrates the special bond shared between humans and their pets while encouraging people to help animals less fortunate than their own. It’s a day where thousands of people come together to support the more than 23,000 animals AHS takes in each year. Our programs and services help both animals and people and include adoption, surrender, outreach, investigation and rescue, humane education, boarding, training, and rehabilitation. Last year, more than $1,040,000 was raised through the Walk, which is nearly 7% of the total revenue goal for AHS. An estimated 9,000 people and 3,000 animals participated in the Walk last year. The event was made possible thanks to a team of 269 volunteers and more than 150 staff from all five AHS locations. There is fun to be had by all at the Walk for Animals! Last year, 57 vendors participated in the “Flealess Market,” as sponsors or as food truck vendors. AHS programs and services are also widely represented at the Walk, and include games for pets at the “Doggie Midway” and activities for children of all ages. There are many sponsor tents throughout the Walk and we welcome any new ideas you may have for your company’s participation. The Walk begins at AHS in Golden Valley and heads through Theodore Wirth Park, turning around and ending back at AHS for more festivities. The Walk is approximately 2.5 miles long, however you can turn around at any point. All animals are welcome, and the event is rain or shine. Even if you can’t participate as a sponsor this year, we would love to have you and your family there — come check it out and join in the celebration! Walk for Animals About Animal Humane Society As the leading animal welfare organization in the Upper Midwest, Animal Humane Society (AHS) is transforming the way shelters care for animals and engage their communities. From innovative medical and behavior programs to investments in outreach and advocacy, we’re advancing animal welfare and creating a more humane world for animals everywhere. AHS is an independent nonprofit organization, not a branch of any national animal welfare organization or part of any government agency. Our work is funded solely by private donations, special events, adoption and program fees, and merchandise sales. Each year we care for more than 23,000 companion animals in need and aid thousands more through programs that help people in our community nurture and protect their pets. Our commitment to an open admission policy means we take in every animal surrendered to us regardless of its health, age, breed or behavior. And we provide extensive medical treatment, surgery, behavior modification, and foster care to those with special challenges, ensuring that even the most difficult-to-place animals are guaranteed a safe refuge and a chance at adoption. As a result of these extraordinary efforts, more than 91 percent of the animals that came through our doors last year were adopted or placed in the community. In addition to helping find the perfect pet, our friendly animal experts at each location offer services and support for every stage of an animal’s life, including a free Pet Helpline (952-HELP-PET), more than 70 familyfriendly training classes per week, peace of mind pet boarding at Animal House and Now Boarding, and education programs for children and families. We also offer low-cost spay and neuter surgeries, wellness services, and dental care for pets of people with limited means through a partnership with Kindest Cut via a mobile surgical unit and at Melrose Animal Clinic in Golden Valley. We’re also reaching beyond our shelters, assisting pets and empowering pet owners in underserved communities and investigating reports of animal cruelty and neglect throughout Minnesota. Our work would not be possible without your continued support. We thank you for your generosity that allows us to continue providing care and compassion to the pets and people in our community.
