Are your ready for the
New Year? What a
strange question, as
we are in the first half
of October and have some time to
go before 2016. I am not talking
about the year 2016. I am talking
about the New Church Year (Year
C). Since we follow the lectionary
and go through the Bible in three
years, we call our Church Years A,
B, and C.

November 29 begins Year C with the
First Sunday of Advent, so are you
ready?
I have to admit that, even though
I am a pastor and I like to plan ahead,
I am not ready. I am not sure where
this past year has gone as it has
been way to fast for me. I have been
finding myself busy with a lot of
things and now it is time to step back
and take a deep breath, time to ask
God for guidance and meditate on his
Word as I prepare for the New
Church Year.
There is still a lot to do both in October and November but as I look to the
future I know that God is always with
us all our days. Amen.
God Bless,
Pastor Ruth

It’s Roast Beef Dinner Time!
It’s fall, so it must be time for our church’s annual roast beef dinner.
This year’s All Church Dinner will be held on Wednesday, October
28, serving from 5-7 pm. Our menu will be our traditional roast beef,
mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, apple rings, assorted salads,
pie, and drinks. Sounds great, doesn’t it? Dinner prices will remain
the same as last year - $13 for adults and $6 for children ages 5-12
(children under 5 eat free).
This dinner is a major fund-raiser for our church and it is called the
All Church Dinner because it needs ALL members of the church to
participate. So what can you do to help?

Harvest Auction
A good time was had by all…at the church’s annual Harvest Auction held on Sunday, September 27
We had a nice array of items for the auction:
* Baked goods
* Fresh vegetables and fruits, including many varieties of squash and apples from
Harold and Tink Nellans’ tree!
* Canned goods ranging from peach pie filling to zucchini salsa to raspberry jam
* Beautiful hand-crafted items like quilting, hardanger, embroidery, and knitting.
There was even a cute metal-sculptured jack-o-lantern!
* Home-made sausage
* Frozen vegetables
* Coupons for freshly made pies, caramel rolls, chili, lefse, and candy
* And much, much more!
People enjoyed pie and coffee before and during the auction and, as usual, everyone really enjoyed
auctioneer Ron Granmoe’s humor and lively presentation. We owe a special thanks to Ron for his
many years of volunteering to spend an afternoon with us.
Although our number of bidders was lower than usual, we still made a nice profit
on this year’s auction. We raised slightly over $2,000. The auction is a fun way to
make some extra (and much-needed) money for our church.
Bell Tower Roof Project
Completed
The long awaited repair project for the Bell Tower was
completed in September. This project cost $10,000 which
was $7,000 less than the other bid for this job.
The contractor was Mark Anderson Roofing which also did
the parsonage roof this spring. Funding for this project
came from the Glendive United Methodist Foundation and
donations over the last 5 years to the Bell Tower fund.
The bell tower roof is composed of two roofs. The first one
on top is a flat roof that was the original roof and had been
tarred many times. It needed new boards and plywood and
those were replaced. It is now covered with heavy vinyl white roofing. The second roof in the bell
tower is by the bell. The original
black tar paper was replaced by new vinyl sheeting. Two
new drain pipes were also installed. Also installed were
two new weather tight metal entry doors which are self
opening and locking. These replaced two old heavy wooden doors which were hard to lift and open.
This was a difficult project due to the task of getting materials up there and the small space to work in. Despite taking
4 months to complete, this work should last for another 100
years. Thanks to all of the church members who donated to
this project!
