RESTORE Therapy pg. 2
ADMINISTRATOR’S LETTER
By Mike Schneider
We are officially in the Holiday Season.
Once
Thanksgiving is over, Christmas decorations and special sales pop up everywhere. Things move so quickly
that it is difficult to find the opportunity to just relax
and enjoy these special times. Sometimes people let
the stress caused by holiday preparation get to them
which results in the “Scrooge” factor; Bah Humbug!
Christmas is a time in which we should be embracing our loved ones and counting the blessings that are
in our lives. The spirit for this season comes from the
heart and not the pocketbook. It’s not the lights on
your house or on your tree that are important; it is
the light in your heart. Even Scrooge learned to keep
Christmas in his heart.
On another note, be careful this winter season! The
ground surfaces will be slippery and you or someone
you know may have an accident. If you do experience a
fall or injury turn to our RESTORE Therapy team for
a fast rehab to home. Our Falls Management team is
part of the physical therapy services of our RESTORE

therapy program. The equipment used with exercises provides easy to understand feedback and
keeps patients motivated to improve their results.
Learning and modifying the factors that lead to
falls increase your mobility and confidence, both
critical to maintaining your personal confidence.
Typical outcomes of patient participation include
increased flexibility and mobility, better balance control and greater self confidence in avoidance of falls.

Management program and get back home for the
holidays!

and happiness. And, remember what is important
during this holiday season...

CONSERVE YOUR ENERGY
By Becky Griffitts
Just thinking about the holidays can be exhausting.
Preparing holiday meals, cleaning the house for your
guests, decorating your house and entertaining family.
Here are some tips to help manage your energy:
1.) Always do the tasks that use up more of your energy first and save the easier tasks for later. So, do
the heavy lifting when you have the most energy. Try
to keep your most used items for meal prep on the
counter top or chest height, so you avoid bending or
stretching frequently. Doing your holiday preparation
in sitting can also help save your energy. Peeling potatoes, basting your turkey, and making all of your other
holiday fixings can be done while in sitting.
2.) Get rid of your unnecessary work. When it comes
to dishes use a dish washer, let them soak and air dry.
If you have to open any sort of packages, such as giblet
pouch, bags of dry stuffing, bags of frozen veggies cut
them open instead of tearing them open. Wear no iron
clothing. Use automatic or electric appliances instead
of doing things by hand.
3.) Proper body mechanics will help conserve energy.
Slide heavy things instead of lifting them and try not
to lean forward unsupported. Rest your elbows on the
counters for extra support and bend at knees when
lifting items off the floor.
4.) When shopping for gifts or for your holiday dinner
there are tips you can use to make it easier on your
body. Sit down at home and make a list. Organize the
list by the store isle. Always try to shop during less
busy periods.
5.) If you find yourself asking, “How will I manage to
do all these things?” Apply the three “P’s”:
- Plan out your daily schedule
- Prioritize your tasks
- Pace yourself, so you can get more done.
Never be afraid or ashamed to ask for help because the
holidays are about family and family is there to help.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from the
RESTORE Therapy team!

A glimpse of our new “Christmas Stroll!”
ACTIVITY CORNER
by Jodie Willoughby
Hello everyone and guess what? The holidays have
snuck up on us once again. Halloween, Family Night
and Thanksgiving are complete, but we still have
Christmas and New Year’s to come!
We have several things planned for December: a visit
from Santa and his reindeer, the Annual Christmas
Party, Christmas devotions, Carolers and a visit from
the Day Care Kids. That should keep us busy!
Please keep an eye out for a new Christmas display.
We are going to put together our very own inside
“Christmas Stroll” for all to enjoy. Not giving away all
the details is hard for me! Please come catch a glimpse
for yourself and see all the details during your next
visit!
I hope your holidays have gone well so far, and that
those ahead bring you joy and many more blessings.
Please take time to enjoy the holiday season and ignore the hustle and bustle. Family time well spent is
truly priceless. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays
to you all!
