Concept of the special
exhibition:
The spotlight shines on the emancipation of women in the
1950s through the example of the most photographed
women of the 20th century -- the actress, singer and style
icon Marilyn Monroe. The exhibition educates about the
strength behind the exceptional phenomenon known as
Marilyn Monroe, who, even 53 years after her death in 1962,
still elicits a fascinating impact on society.
The Liechtenstein National Museum presents 400 pieces
from Monroe's estate, now part of the private collection of
Ted Stampfer, the largest collection of Marilyn Monroe
originals of its kind. Shown are: her personal, high quality
articles of clothing; accessories; beauty, skincare and styling
products; film props; personal and film company
documents; and photographs that are being unveiled
publicly for the first time. The collection is complemented

by individual pieces from other international collectors.
The exhibition allows visitors to dive into Monroe's world
and walk through the most important chronological stages
of her life. They can view special exhibits that bear witness
to both the life and work of this extraordinary woman, as
well as those that display her metamorphosis into
emancipation. The items on exhibit show how she used her
beauty and self-determination to rebel against the maledominated film industry. This courageous behavior led to,
among other things, better contract terms and the ability to
have more say over her career, plus to establishing her own
film production company - another way she became more
independent.
