Exactly Who Is This Baby?
Next week we will celebrate the biggest holiday of the year. Let me remind you that it is a “Holi Day.”
That's where the word comes from, Holy Day. Let me also remind you that it is called CHRISTmas.
CHRISTmas is about the birth of baby Jesus.
JUST EXACTLY WHO IS THIS BABY JESUS?
THERE IS ONE PASSDAGE OF SCRIPTURE THAT GIVES THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE
ANSWER TO THE QUESTION: WHO IS JESUS?
Colossians 1: 12-22 12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the
inheritance of the saints in light: 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath
translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even
the forgiveness of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For
by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether
they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 18 And he is the head of the body, the
church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the
preeminence. 19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; 20 And, having made
peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether
they be things in earth, or things in heaven. 21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in
your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled 22 In the body of his flesh through death, to
present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
I. THIS BABY IS UNIQUE – THERE IS ONLY ONE JESUS!
A. 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, ..
B. IMAGE = IKONE – Gk. : Icon
C. Genesis 1: 26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: ..
i. You are:
a) Soul
b) Body
c) Spirit
ii. God is:
a) Soul – The Father. The Essence of God
• Invisible.
• We will never physically see The Father.
• John 1: 18 No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is
in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
b) Body – JESUS
• Matthew 1: 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son,
and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
• John 14: 7-9 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and
from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. Philip saith unto him, Lord,
show us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long
time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath
seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?
• Colossians 2: 9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
c) Spirit – HOLY GHOST
D. FIRSTBORN
i. This phrase is used several times regarding Jesus.
ii. Colossians 1: 15 ...the firstborn of every creature:
a) First Century Arians and today's Jehovah's Witnesses use this verse to teach the
heresy that Jesus was not God but was created by God.
b) Has nothing to do with first or born.
c) It means first in rank or privilege.
• Israel – Exodus 4: 22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD,
Israel is my son, even my firstborn:
• DAVID IS CALLED THE FIRST BORN BUT HE WAS THE 8TH BORN –
Psalms 89: 27 Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the
earth.
iii. JESUS Is Unique
a) He is not just another religious figure.
b) You need to consider who he is and who.
c) You will never find a better relationship and person for whom to live your life than
Jesus.
• You may say, “Well, I've got a different plan for my life.”
• IT'S A BAD PLAN!
d) Jesus IS the plan!
II. THIS BABY IS THE CREATOR
A. 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and
invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were
created by him, and for him:
B. I USED TO VISUALIZE Genesis 1: 1 “In the beginning...” AS THE FATHER – BUT IT
WAS JESUS!
C. This tiny baby created The Universe!
i. Can you comprehend The Universe?
ii. Rocket Ship – Traveling at the speed of light: 186,000 mps!
a) In 7 hours (not minutes) you could reach Pluto.
b) Space is a good name for it. Only 1/1,000,000,000,000 of it is planets and stars.
c) Remember the maps of our Solar System?
• They are not proportionate.
• If EARTH = Size of a PEA,..
• Then JUPITER would be 1000 ft away,..
• PLUTO would be 1.5 miles away!
d) I thought when you get to Pluto you reached the edge of our Solar System.
e) Our planets are only 1/50,000 of our Solar System!
f) There are billions of stars like our Sun.
g) Scientists estimate that there are 140 Billions galaxies! Have a headache yet?
h) It would take 140 Billion peas to fill Reliant Stadium!
D. EXACTLY WHO IS THIS BABY? HE'S THE ONE THAT MADE ALL OF THE
GALAXIES!
E. I do not believe in evolution. I do not believe in so called theistic-evolution.
F. I believe the Second Person of the Godhead spoke the worlds into existence!
i. Hebrews 11: 3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of
God,.!
ii. Colossians 1: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in
earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or
powers [All ranks & divisions of Angels]: all things were created by him, and for him:
G. The Jews at the time of Christ had a really hard time accepting that Jesus was God...
i. So they thought, let us compromise:
a) Jesus is an angel.
b) A really good angel.
c) He is the very best angel.
ii. But Paul writes here in Colossians to say – Hey, let me help you out, Jesus made the
angels!
III. THIS BABY IS THE GOAL – Colossians 1: 16 ...all things were created by him, and for him:
A. Everything exists for Jesus! - It was all made by Him and for Him.
i. For His glory.
ii. For His will.
iii. For His honor.
B. Why does the Sun shine? For Him!
C. Why does Saturn have rings? For Him!
D. Why do birds sing? For Him!
E. Why does the Aurora borealis put on it's spectacular light show? For Him!
F. Why have you been given a life to live here on Earth? For Him!
G. How should you spend the rest of your time? Let me hear you!
i. He is the Lord of all creation!
ii. All of creation will someday bow their knee to him!
iii. Philippians 2: 10-11 10That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in
heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11And that every tongue should
confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
IV. SOMETIMES CHRISTIANS SAY, “MAKE JESUS LORD OF YOUR LIFE.”
A. No one makes Jesus Lord!
i. He is the Lord of your life, you are either submitting to it or rebelling against it.
ii. You can bow before Jesus voluntarily now in this life or be forced to on your face when
you face Him as Judge.
B. Someday everyone: Mick Jaggar, Madonna, Marilyn Manson – all on their faces before
Jesus Christ – Not the little baby , but the Judge who rules the world with a rod of iron, with
thunder in his footsteps and lightning in His eyes.
C. Napoleon, Hitler, Ghadaffi – You, Me – naked before the Judge, The King of kings!
D. Are you Ready?
V. THIS BABY IS THE SOURCE – EVERYTHING COMES FROM JESUS.
A. Colossians 1: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
i. He is – Emphatic Tense
ii. He is Eternal God
iii. He has Seniority! We ought to surrender all that we have and all that we are to Him, His
will, His church, His kingdom!
B. All things consist (hold together).
i. He is the power behind every mysterious force in the universe.
a) Gravity
b) Centrifugal force
c) Centripetal force
C. The Universe is so Ginormous – There's another!..
i. But it's also incredible small and complex.
ii. Let's go from the macro to the micro.
D. Atoms
i. Make the smallest space with your fingers...
ii. Divide that space by 1,000 = Micron
iii. Micron divided by 10,000 = atom
iv. Atom = 1/10,000,000 millimeter
v. What an atom is to a millimeter, your business card next to the J. P. Morgan Chase
Tower in Downtown Houston, laying flat on the ground.
E. Nucleus of the Oxygen Atom
i. Eight positively charged protons
ii. Eight neutrons with no charge
a) Scientist – Coulomb's Law: Like forces repel each other...
b) George Gamow – One of the father's of The Big Bang Theory: “We live in a world
where practically every object is a potential nuclear explosion that for some reason
is not being blown to bits.”
c) The question that scientists can't answer is what is holding all of this together?
iii. Subatomic world: Quantum Mechanics
a) Makes atoms look humongous!
• Quarks.
• Like particles operate and respond to each other even when separated.
• Comparison: A cue ball here in Dickinson and another cue ball in Tokyo, Japan.
If you spin the one in Dickinson clockwise, the cue ball in Tokyo would also
start spinning in the same direction.
b) Jesus is holding The Universe together! - Scientists cannot figure it out.
• The late, Carl Darrell – Physicist, Bell labs, “You grasp what this implies? That
all the massive nuclei have no right to exist at all and they should have never
been created. And if they were created, they should have blown apart the
moment they were released. There is some relentless force holding it all together
and some day that force will be removed and Coulomb's Law will take effect.”
• Einstein called it spooky!
c) I CALL IT JESUS! Colossians 1: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all
things consist.
iv. 2 Peter 3: 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the
heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent
heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
F. Scientists study and study this universe and have millions of questions but can't seem to find
enough answers. The answers are right there in front of them! JESUS!
