May 2014 TOTALLY TECHNOLOGY In May 2014, work.shop.play. issued a survey to it’s 1,000 strong urban audience panel across the Island of Ireland to gather the opinions, habits and behaviours relating to technology. Overall, the findings reveal a tech-savvy audience, who not only own a range of technology devices, but rely on them and are keen to invest more this year keeping up-to-date. Technology Ownership 96% Own a smartphone 29% Own a smart / internet enabled TV 2in5 1in5 Own a media streaming device (e.g. Apple TV, Google Chromecast) 5% Own a piece of wearable technology but demand is growing The Appeal of Wearable Technology 2in5 Find smart watches appealing (e.g. Samsung Galaxy bluetooth watch) 45% Own an e-Reader (e.g. Amazon Kindle) 61% Own a tablet Wearable Technology 27% Own a blu-ray player Spend on Technology: 2013 Vs. 2014 Find Wristbands/armbands appealing (e.g. Nike+ Fuelband) 31% Find Glasses appealing (e.g. Google Glass) 42% Find Footwear appealing (e.g. Nike+ iPod Sensor) Overall, men find wearable technology more appealing than women, with the exception of footwear and wristbands. 50% 25% 35% Smart Devices - Can’t live without them! Attitudes to buying Technology 84% Spent more than £501 / €601 on Technology in 2013 Expect to spend more on technology this year than they did last year 1in3 Buy technology on impulse – “when I see a technology product I want, I buy it!” Expect to spend the same amount on technology in 2014 2in3 Like to trial the product before they buy, with Men more likely to do so 74% think of their smartphone or tablet as a partner, saying “it comes to bed with them and they can’t live without it”. wouldn’t go on holiday without their smartphone
