n 1972, as famed treasure hunter Mel Fisher and his
company diligently searched the waters off Florida's
southernmost tip for the legendary sunken Spanish
galleon, Nuestra Señora de Atocha with her bounteous

1 Corinthians
15:52
As they traversed a place called New Ground Reef, off
the Marquesas Keys, some 36 miles from Key West, their
sophisticated search equipment revealed something on the
sea floor, about thirty feet below the surface, clearly the
remains of a sunken ship. Could this be "the day"? Soon
enough they would learn that this was not the Atocha, but
that they had come upon a treasure of another kind,
arguably even more valuable.
One of the first items to be brought up from the wreck
- an ivory tusk - virtually said it all: this ship had been to
Africa. And that
could mean but
one thing. All suspicions were confirmed as other objects surfaced, unmistakable among
them despite nearly three centuries of seaborne encrustation, the haunting, ominous shapes of iron shackles. A
slave ship had been found.
Although it was not realized at the time, this find
would be destined for widespread notoriety, as a symbol
and embodiment of a troubled yet precious heritage. It
would be the first (and, thus far, only) slave ship wreck in
North American waters to be seriously studied, thanks in
large part to individuals like diver Tony Kopp and, later,
diver/archaeologist David Moore, whose tireless research
led to the identification of the vessel and to the story of her
ill-fated voyage.
Indeed, Moore's work is the very reason and basis for
most of this exhibition. It was he who discovered the ship's
cast bronze bell at the wreck
site. As the encrusted deposits
were carefully removed from it, a
name and date were revealed in
raised letters: "THE HENRIETTA
MARIE 1699."
Now the scant remains of
the ship and all the bits and
pieces found at the site took on
a real life and meaning. Now, with an actual name and
date, documents could be searched that would tell of the
ship's original size and shape, her owners and crew, her
cargo, and her voyage to New Calabar on the African
Coast, from which she transported Igbo captives to
Jamaica, before meeting her end in a storm as she turned
homeward through the Florida Strait in 1701.
In 1993, as Moore's research continued apace and the
Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Society meticulously assembled and prepared the artifacts from the site for this touring exhibition, the Henrietta Marie made her true entry into
the national (and international) consciousness. The occasion was the ceremonial placement of an underwater
plaque and monument at the wreck site by the National
Association of Black Scuba Divers (NABS), the culmination
of a formidable organizing and fundraising effort yielding
valuable alliances, international news coverage, numerous
articles and commentaries, at least two books and several

Interesting stuff for around the house
DID YOU KNOW?
• Peel a banana from the bottom and you won't have to pick the little
'stringy things' off of it. That's how the primates do it.
Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave
them connected at the stem, they ripen faster.
Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil. It will stay fresh
much longer and not mold!
• Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating.
• Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.
Add a teaspoon of water when frying ground beef. It will help pull the
grease away from the meat while cooking. To really make scrambled eggs
or omelets rich add a couple of spoonfuls of sour cream, cream cheese, or
heavy cream in and then beat them up.
• For a cool brownie treat, make brownies as directed.
• Melt Andes mints in double broiler and pour over warm brownies.
Let set for a wonderful minty frosting.
Add garlic immediately to a recipe if you want a light taste of garlic and
at the end of the recipe if your want a stronger taste of garlic.
• Reheat Pizza – Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the
stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm.
This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza. I saw this on the cooking channel and it really works.
• Easy Deviled Eggs – Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash
till they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into
egg. Just throw bag away when done.
• Expanding Frosting – When you buy a container of cake frosting from
the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in
size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also
eat less sugar and calories per serving.
• Reheating refrigerated bread – To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins
that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The
increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.
• Newspaper weeds away – Start putting in your plants; work the nutrients in your soil.Wet newspapers, put layers around the plants overlapping
as you go, cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get
through some gardening plastic, but they will not get through wet newspapers.
• Broken Glass – Use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to pick up the small
shards of glass you can't see easily.
• No More Mosquitoes – Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep
the mosquitoes away.
• Squirrel Away! – To keep squirrels from eating your plants, sprinkle
your plants with cayenne pep per. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the
plant and the squirrels won't come near it.
• Flexible vacuum – To get something out of a heat register or under the
fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.
• Reducing Static Cling — Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip
and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks
that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and ...
ta da! ... static is gone.
• Measuring Cups – Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring
cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry cup. Next,
Page 3
add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes
right out.
• Foggy Windshield? – Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car . When the window s fog, rub
with the eraser!
• Reopening envelope – If you seal an envelope and then realize you
forgot to include something inside, just place your sealed envelope in the
freezer for an hour or two. Viola! It unseals easily.
• Conditioner – Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great
way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried
it in your hair.
• Goodbye Fruit Flies – To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass,
fill it 1/2' with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid; mix
well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!
• Get Rid of Ants – Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They
eat it, take it 'home,' can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or
so, especially if it rains, but it works and you don't have the worry about
pets or small children being harmed!
• INFO ABOUT CLOTHES DRYERS
The heating unit went out on my dryer! The gentleman that fixes things
around the house for us told us that he wanted to show us something and
he went over to the dryer and pulled out the lint filter. It was clean. (I
always clean the lint from the filter after every load clothes.) He told us
that he wanted to show us something; he took the filter over to the sink
and ran hot water over it. The lint filter is made of a mesh material ... I'm
sure you know what your dryer's lint filter looks like. Well ... the hot water
just sat on top of the mesh! It didn't go through it at all! He told us that
dryer sheets cause a film over that mesh that's what burns out the heating unit. You can't SEE the film, but it's there. It's what is in the dryer
sheets to make your clothes soft and static free ... that nice fragrance too.
You know how they can feel waxy when you take them out of the box ..
well this stuff builds up on your clothes and on your lint screen. This is also
what causes dryer units to potentially burn your house down with it! He
said the best way to keep your dryer working for a very long time (and to
keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out and wash it with hot
soapy water and an old toothbrush (or other brush) at least every six
months. He said that makes the life of the dryer at least twice as long!
How about that!?! Learn something new everyday! I certainly didn't know
dryer sheets would do that. So, I thought I'd share!

Poems
The Word of God is
of No Private Interpretation
By Joseph Lemon,
The House of Jacob, Chicago, IL
There is a revolution, it’s the source of world confusion,
but first you must look pass - the illusion,
That has been given by the son of perdition
In order to get an explanation
you have to look back to the creation
When the waters began their separation
and the mist off the earth started evaporation.
Oh, what a sensation,
the Almighty Creater began HIS creation,
And on the 7th day HE had a celebration.
And announced a solid proclamation,
That “The 7th day will be held as a convocation,
Throughout the generations,
No matter what the situation...
So, IF someone gives you another explanation,
one with NO substantiation,
You should cut off your communication
Because their doctrine is an imitation.
You must show total dedication,
to the GOD of CREATION,
Because the lake of fire is NOT a good sensation.
Where With Sighs
By Jessica Young, Age 12
House of Jacob, Evansville Indiana
When the sun goes down
and the moon goes up so high.
The towns asleep, but I'm up
all night with continuous sighs.
I call for help, but no human
being returns my calls.
So I go to the Lord in prayer and say,
“Lord I come to you and ask, why do
I have these sighs in the middle of
darkness do I cry with the moon
in the sky? So I hope you answer my
prayer, because you're my only hope
to make it there.”

Aids and circumcision tie together
to reduce the risk factor.
Health
A
ge old ritual proves to be pertinent in the fight against aids.
According to recent studies circumcision In men reduces the
risk of contacting AIDS. In the year 2004-2006 a study was
conducted in South Africa, Uganda, and Kenya with the support of Hadassah Medical Organization which is located in Jerusalem.
This study was sparked by Inon Schenker an AIDS specialist, who gathered information from a Jewish handbook that documented circumcision
that dated back to 1993. The handbook revealed that more than 1,000
adult male circumcisions were performed in the 1990's on newcomers
coming from Russia to Israel. According to this handbook this procedure
had to be in accordance with the Jewish
law as well as to
affirm their Judaism.
The practice was
found to be the
answer to the growing
epidemic of AIDS that
is spreading rapidly in
these African countries, but is more of a
casualty in Swaziland where according to newspaper sources has the
highest percentage of the AIDS virus.
Is circumcision a practice of the pass? Yes it is. Going back to the
BIBLE Abraham is the father of circumcision, GENESIS 17:10 This is my
covenant which ye shall keep between me and you and thy seed after
thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised. And ye shall circumcised the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant
betwixt me and you.
Is circumcision a thing of the pass? Yes it is. In a study conducted by
physicians they found that since the early 70's and the late 80's circumcision is being done less now than it has been in ie pass. The main reason
for the lack of circumcision is due to cost, because most insurance companies will not pay for the procedure. However in this study of the
Maternity Experience Survey conducted in 2006 in a 3 month time frame
of 6,500 women who had just given birth. It concluded that 44.3% of
women wanted their son to be circumcised for health and hygiene reasons. While 37.3% of women said the procedure was done so their newborn would be like his father and/or brother. The remaining 15.5% said the
procedure was done for religious reasons.
Another study that tied circumcision with yet another disease conducted by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey concluded that from 1999-2004, 6,174 men were tested for Herpes Simplex Virus
Type 2 (HSV-2). The testing was performed to promote an increase of circumcision in men and yet the numbers across the board seem to be conclusive that only 79% of men were circumcised and it varied by race and
ethnicity. The numbers are as followed 88% in non-Hispanic whites, 73%
in non-Hispanic blacks, 42% in Mexican America and 50% in others. In the
United States alone circumcision high dates were from 1949-1979 with
the increase In non-Hispanic blacks and Mexican American and the drop
in circumcision started in the 1980's. It was found that circumcision had
no significance on the (HSV-2) disease.
This war on the fight against aids has only one preventive factor and
that is circumcision. It has proved to be the only link to reducing the risk
of contacting the disease. With the help of a new device called the
ShangRing, named after the inventor Mr. Jian-Zhong, the procedure will be
more affordable and less time consuming. In the days of old, it generally
took 20-30 minutes, but with the ShangRing it will take less then 5 minutes. This procedure circumcised several thousand Chinese and will be
tested in the African countries where it will be faster, and safer with hopes
that it will begin to minimize the disease.
This procedure can be done at almost any hospital and consultation
is recommended before it is done and after consultation most doctors will
perform the procedure the same day. In the United States, first time
circumcision can cost any where from $800-S3000 because some doctors
call it cosmetic surgery and every patient has a different circumstance so
the cost varies.
Aids is not a disease that affects just African countries, but it is affecting people worldwide. There are probably a lot of men who has yet to be
circumcised due to the lack of knowledge or maybe their father wasn't circumcised or their mother probably didn't want it done. Whatever the case
may be, sexually transmitted diseases exist and they can be prevented as
long as we seek the knowledge and pass the information on to our children and/or our adult children from generation to generation.
Circumcision is not a tradition of man it is a covenant with Jesus. GENESIS
17:13 He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money,
must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an
everlasting covenant.

The Henrietta Marie symbolizes in many
