University of Deusto-Bilbao
COURSES
Bilbao, famous for its intensely green landscapes and heavenly beaches, is a
modern and cosmopolitan city. Located in the North of Spain, Bilbao is well
known thanks to its old traditions, worldly renowned cuisine and cultural
activities.
The University of Deusto is located in a unique spot, right next to the
internationally acclaimed Guggenheim Museum, the Bilbao River, and the
Iberdrola Tower, which is the tallest skyscraper in the North of Spain. The
University of Deusto is one of the oldest and most important universities in
Spain.
Cultura y Política en España (Spanish Culture and Politics – 3 US Credits)
This course introduces the student to contemporary Spanish culture. The main goal
of the class is to become familiar with the social, economic and political structures of
Spain nowadays. The focus of study will be the following:
Spain’s ancient monarchy (restored after a long dictatorship)
The autonomous communities in Spain, which can be seen as a way to
historic conflict solving
Spain as one of the main touristic destinations in the world
Spain: the country of Don Quixote, Lorca, bullfighting and soccer.
CIDE (Centro Internacional Deusto de Español)
CIDE programs are with no doubt synonym of quality education. By taking its
classes you will not only improve your level of Spanish not matter how basic or
advanced it is, but you will also learn a great deal about Spanish and
European culture and diversity.
Lengua española (Spanish language – 3 US Credits)
Two different levels of language classes will be offered based upon the students’ needs. The main goal of this course is the development of the individual’s communicative skills, from an intermediate to an advanced level, by practicing oral
and written expression and comprehension.

The Madrid of Austrias, Royal Palace, Prado Museum y Reina Sofía Museum
Bilbao: Guided tour through the historical district and the “Ensanche”
Guggenheim Museum: Visit to the contemporary art museum
Plentzia: Visit to the coast of Biscay and the fisherman town of Plentzia
and Plentzia beach.
San Sebastian: Guided tour through the historic district y the Concha Bay
Gernika and Biosphere Reserve of Urdaibai
Pamplona: "The Running of the Bulls (Optional Extra Visit)
HOUSING AND OTHER SERVICES
Host Families in Bilbao and its nearby suburbs (easy access through public
transportation).
Family life integration, tuned as desired.
Individual rooms.
3 meals a day and cloths washing.
CIDE gives all students prior to their arrival information about their host families. The
program is in charge of processing applications and acts as a mediator in case any
dispute arises.
