Never Surrender
The U.S. Department of Defense explains the appearance of the American flag facing
"backward" on the right uniform sleeve of the Team USA uniform...according to Army
Regulation 670-1, under Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia, when
authorized for application the American flag patch is to be worn, right or left shoulder, so
that the star field faces forward...when worn in this manner, the flag appears to be flying
in the breeze as the wearer moves forward...the appropriate replica for the right shoulder
sleeve is identified as the "reverse side flag"...soldiers say it means "never surrender."
