A Peek at our Week:
During our literacy block, we continued
reading books by the author, Leo Lionni. We
have enjoyed reading his books and learning
that he likes to write using animals, especially
mice, as his characters. Today, we concluded
our unit on Leo Lionni by having an “Author
Celebration”! The students had fun exploring
gummy worms, drawing trees in different
seasons, making a wish on a purple pebble,
painting Swimmy and his friends, and enjoying
a yummy underwater snack!  Be sure to ask
your child what their favorite part of the
celebration was!
During word study, we began looking at
syllables. The students learned that syllables
are parts of words. We practiced counting
syllables by clapping out each of our friends
names in our class. We found it interesting
that it even if you have the same number of
letters in your name, it doesn’t mean you will
have the same number of syllables. Be sure to
ask your child about how many syllables are in
their name!
In math, we completed our Unit 2 interviews
and will begin Unit 3 next week. Unit 3
included telling time to the half-hour,
addition and subtraction number stories,
counting to 100, and addition and subtraction
math facts.
We had our first visit from the Marysville
Public Librarian. She came and shared some
fun things that are happening at the library
and also read us some new books. She will be
visiting our classroom periodically throughout
the year. This is always a highlight when she
comes
Have a wonderful weekend!! 
