Sixth Grade Summer Reading 2012
EAGLE College Prep
Dear rising sixth graders!
This summer you will need to read THREE books: The Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsall
(required), one biography of your choice, and at least one free-choice book. We encourage
you to read as many books as you would like.
What to read:
The Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsall (REQUIRED)
o
The Penderwicks is an enjoyable tale of four sisters, a new friend, and his
snooty mother. The tale begins as the Penderwicks embark on a summer
holiday in the Berkshire Mountains, at a cottage on the grounds of a posh
mansion owned by the terribly snobbish Mrs. Tifton. Problems are solved and
lessons learned in this wonderful, humorous book that features characters
whom readers will immediately love, as well as a superb writing style!
o
We suggest that you read this book toward the end of the summer because
we will discuss the book and work on a writing assignment during the first
two weeks of school.
One BIOGRAPHY of your choice
o
Write a brief ½ page summary of the biography that you read. Please be sure
to include the title and author as well as the major events in the person’s
life.
o
Please have your summary on the first day of school.
FREE CHOICE: you may read any other book(s) of your choice. Some suggestions
are listed on the back. We invite you to read any books that you are excited about.
o
Write a brief ½ page Book Review on your free choice book. Please include
the title, author, genre, and recommendation, describing why you liked the
o
book.
