LOCKHEED HC-130P Overview The Lockheed HC-130 is an extended-range, search and rescue (SAR) and combat search and rescue (CSAR) version of the C-130 Hercules transport. The HC-130P Combat King and HC-130J Combat King II models are operated by the United States Air Force for long-range SAR and CSAR. The mission of the HC-130P/N "King" is to rapidly deploy to austere airfields and denied territory in order to execute, all weather personnel recovery operations anytime...anywhere. King crews routinely perform high and low altitude personnel & equipment airdrops, infiltration/exfiltration of personnel, helicopter airto-air refueling, and forward area refueling point missions. Exercise Role The HC -130P is being deployed in the Air-to-Air Refueling (AAR) role. This process of transferring aviation fuel from one military aircraft (the tanker) to another (the receiver) during flight allows the receiving aircraft to remain airborne longer, extending its range or loiter time on station. The United States Air Force will deploy the HC130P from Beja Airbase, Portugal.
