Press release: Embargoed until June 22, 2013 at 9:00 am P’S SSSS! (POTTON’S STANDING STONE SEEDS SOAP) A LEGEND WITH ROOTS (Township of Potton, June 22 2013) Within the context of the inauguration of Potton’s public market and the introduction for sale of Potton’s amazing standing stone seeds, otherwise called les graines de menhir, an original product is being put on the market: an exfoliating soap made from cold pressed standing stone roots. Soapstone? A stone made from soap? Neither one, Virginia! It’s soap made in the traditional style from knowledge passed from mother to daughter for many generations. Legend has it that the ancient Celts who once lived in Potton, ritually cleansed themselves in the icy spring waters at the foot of the Missisquoi North river falls. It was then that their soap, made with the essential oils of the youngest tenderest shoots of standing stone stock was made during the winter. So was born POTTON’S STANDING STONE SEEDS SOAP, CALLED P’S SSSS! The catchy acronym of P’s SSSS! has its own history as well. Oral tradition tells us that the early Celts also traded soaps with other families by using a series of secret hand signals coupled with a low whistling which sounded much like: «P’S SSSS!» Modern techniques of soap making employ the original ancestral formula to make soap in the proud Celtic tradition. This legendary soap may be purchased at the following locations: Every Saturday morning at the public market in Potton, from 9 am to 1 pm At la Savonnerie des Diligences à Eastman, At Jewett’s Store in Vale Perkins, in the Township of Potton And on the the following website : www.savonneriediligences.ca La Savonnerie des Diligences, recipient of a Gold Award at the Grands Prix du Tourisme 2012 and 2013, for the Eastern Township, is proud to be associated with the marketing of Potton’s standing stone seeds. Additionally, 25% of the profit from the sale of these soaps will go to finance projects favoring the accessibility for people with physical disability to tourist establishments throughout the territory of Memphrémagog. The Centre local de développement de Memphrémagog and Kéroul, an organization devoted to the development of tourism and culture for the handicapped, will help in the selection of recipient businesses. « We are very happy to see that the standing stones of Potton are germinating and growing so well. Such productivity is particularly helpful with projects helping to integrate handicapped persons of our community » concludes Jacques Marcoux, Mayor of the Township of Potton and President of the Memphremagog CLD. -30- Sources: Marie-Ève Lejour, 450-297-3979, [email protected] Michel Trudel, 450-292-3343, [email protected] POTTON’S STANDING STONE SEEDS SOAP Presentation of the soap:
