February is a very important month in the history of our country. Two of our greatest presidents, Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, were born in this month. Good citizenship is
important the year around, and this is a good tim e to take a look at a guide that will help to make

Great George Washington, Sing A
Song When His Birthday Comes!
George Washington's birthday will be next Monday,
Feb. 22. He was born in Virginia. He started school at
seven and went until he was about 14 years old. Arithmetic was his favorite subject. He gr~w up on a big plantation. He liked riding, hunting, fishing and boating. He also liked to dance. He became a surveyor and made ..
maps of the Virginia lands. He became a soldier and was
a lieutenant colonel of the Virginia Citizen's Arf!1Y and ledhis troops against the Indians. When he was 26 years old·
he decided to become a farmer and he returned to Virginia to live at Mount Vernon. He married Martha Custis,
a very rich widow. She had two children. Washington
was a loving stepfather. He was later chosen to lead the
first American army in the revolution against the British.
The war lasted for eight long years. Washington led the
troops to victory. He then returned to Virginia to become
~ gentleman pla6ter. He helped write the Constitution of
our country: He was elected our country's first president
on Feb. 4, 1789. He served as president until 1797. He
died of a throat infection on Dec. 14, 1799.

Oscar Robertson is considered
perhaps the greatest guard in the history of the NBA. He played for the Cin~innati Royals for 10 years before joinm~ . the MIlwaukee Bucks this year. He
will play with Lew Alcindor, so this
should be a great season for the
Bucks.
Robertson went to college at the
_'University of Cincinnati where he led
his team to 79 victories in 88 games.
He became the first man to ever win
_-three consecutive national scoring titles. Robertson jOined the Royals in
1960 and has a lifetime pro average of
30 points per game. He has been on
the All Star team ever since he has
been a pro. He is called UBig 0". He
also has been the league's top foul
shooter twice.
