Yeshiva at the Jersey Shore Second Annual Dinner About YJS Yeshiva at the Jersey Shore is the only Ashkenazi day school in the Jersey Shore area. YJS educates children from preschool through 8th grade and welcomes Jewish children of all backgrounds and levels of observance. YJS’s groundbreaking educational model is child-centered and designed to nurture every student’s intellect and unique sense of self. Mrs. Lisa & Mr. Jonathan Shapiro Guests of Honor Lisa and Jonathan Shapiro have been integral members of the Yeshiva at the Jersey Shore family since the founding of the school. President of the YJS Board Lisa is Vice of Directors. She is a founding board member, served as the Treasurer, and is the immediate past President. Jonathan has served as technology consultant to YJS since its inception. In addition to their considerable contributions to the establishment and growth of the school, they are proud YJS parents. Their daughter Their daughter Amy Brynn is a sixth grader. graduated from YJS in 2014 and is attending Hillel Yeshiva High School. The Shapiros are enormously committed to the local Jewish community as well. Lisa is currently a board member of in Long Branch, past Treasurer of Additionally, Congregation Brothers of Israel and is a former Vice President. Jonathan is the immediate CB I , and also served as a past Vice President. the Shapiros are active members of Congregation Sons of Israel-The Shul of Wayside. Lisa and Jonathan have managed to meet the demands of their busy volunteer schedules while leading successful professional lives. Owner/President of Ellis Career Consultants, placement firm. Senior Systems Mrs. Naava & Rabbi Joshua Hess Harbatzat Torah Award Naava and Rabbi Joshua Hess are cherished members of the YJS family, and are leaders in Torah education both at the school and in their home community of Linden, NJ. Morah Naava joined the YJS faculty as the school’s first Kindergarten teacher in 2010, and she is beloved by students, parents, and colleagues alike. four children Dalia, Esti, Rabbi and Rebbitzen of Additionally, Akiva, Naava and Rabbi Hess are proud YJS parents; their and Dani all currently attend the school. The Hesses are also Congregation Anshe Chesed in Linden, NJ. Together with Naava and other community members, Rabbi Hess has increased shul membership and helped to turn the shul’s mikvah project into a reality. He has accomplished these feats while also overseeing the Vaad HaKashrut of Linden and obtaining his Masters in Jewish History from Yeshiva University. Senator Joseph M. Kyrillos, Jr. Distinguished Service in Public Affairs ' Senator Joseph M. Kyrillos, Jr. began serving New Jersey s 13th Legislative District in 1988 when he was elected to the General Assembly. After spending two terms in the Assembly he was elected to the Senate where he has served since 1992. The Yeshiva at the Jersey Shore is pleased to honor ' Mr. Kyrillos s years of dedicated service to New Jersey as he prepares to retire from the Senate. His record includes efforts to protect our Jersey Shore environment and to promote the values of the Jewish community including the importance of Jewish education and support for the State of Israel. We know that he will continue to serve as a tireless advocate for our shared values in all of his future endeavors.
