The Unveiling of the Greenmount Memorial tablet and seat on Sunday May 10th 1953 at 3.15pm
Join the Village Remembrance Day Service on Tues 11th Nov
Twelve months ago the Greenmount Village Community started fund raising to upgrade our War Memorial on
the corner of Holcombe Road and Lomax Street (at the corner of the church grounds by the zebra crossing). We
are delighted to say that we reached our funding total and in June of this year we commissioned Sally Fraser, our
resident blacksmith, to design and build two new features to hold flower boxes. These have been made in
decora+ve steel to enhance our War Memorial in +me for the 100th Anniversary of the Outbreak of the Great
War.
The whole memorial area is due to have a face li0 as well as these two new features being installed. We have
invited along a member of the Armed Services to join us to dedicate the new memorial.
The service will take place on Tuesday 11th November 2014 star ng at 10.45am outside the church with
various groups from our community laying wreaths on the war memorial.
Our advice is: Get there early as there is likely to be a large number of people a2ending this year’s service.

First Saturday in the Month
Saturday
‘Drop In’
from 10 am
to Noon at
Greenmount
Future Events
Have you been down to Greenmount Old School on the
morning of the first Saturday in the month? It is a hive of
ac+vity.
What started off as a sale of books and jigsaws has
grown and grown. The “Saturday Drop In”, is now an
opportunity for those who would like a +me to chat and
meet other people to come along and have pie and peas
for £2. If you require transport to this ac+vity, or would
like to help or join a rota to make cakes, contact Chrisne Taylor on 07854 260947. The “Kni2er Kna2er” group
also meets on this day to sell their ‘Heart of Art’ produce
and to encourage other people to enjoy the ac+vity.
Local Buses—Decimated!
In recent months the bus services in our area have been
chopped back significantly. This is what has happened.
Route 478
The hourly 478 bus which ran from Ramsbo2om to Bury
via Vernon Road and Brandlesholme Road finished at the
end of July.
Route 273
The 273 bus from Rawtenstall to Bolton via Holcombe
Brook will finish at the end of October except for one early
morning and one at night.
Route 480 and 481
The 480 and 481 which run From Bury via Walshaw
through Greenmount don't run from Bury a0er 14.45 un+l
16.15 so if you miss the 14.45 bus you have to wait un+l
16.15pm for the next one.
The LInk
Transport for Greater Manchester supply a service called
'The Link' - a taxi firm is contracted to run a subsidized taxi
service for people living in certain areas which includes
Greenmount. It does have it’s draw backs. You have to
book at least 1 hour before you want to travel, you can
only be picked up from your own home and the taxi may
then go and pick up other people, so it could take +me to
get to where you need to go. For more informa+on on
the Link use the web address below or call 0161 763 1655

If you would like to help maintain the Kirklees Valley and become a volunteer in our group please
contact the Chairman. We meet one morning a
month (typically the last Friday of the month) at
the Old School at 10am and for about two hours.
We may cut wood/trees, +dy up undergrowth,
plant flowers and any other rou+ne maintenance
as required. No specific skills are required.
Forge Open Day—Come and meet our village blacksmith
Some of you may have no+ced smoke and flames (rest assured all under control!) coming from the building
which resides next to the entrance to Greenmount Sidings. This is the Village Forge and is occupied by Sally Fraser who has recently moved into the village. On Sunday 23rd November from 10 am ll 3pm the forge will be
open to the public with hands on ac+vi+es for young and old alike. On sale will be 3D poppies (similar to those
on the new war memorial) which you can purchase with the proceeds going to the Royal Bri+sh Legion.
