Year 6 – Autumn 2 Project Homework Grid Homework is due on Monday. New homework is sent home on Tuesday. You should complete one topic homework of your choice each week as well as the science task. You will also have weekly maths homework and a perfect paragraph to practise. Please take time over your homework; research it carefully and present it neatly. Each half term we will have a homework party to celebrate good homework. Each homework is worth five points. This half term, you will need at least 120 points to earn your invitation. Lucy will run a homework club every Tuesday lunchtime. Drop in for help with homework and access to the Internet. Topic – Rivers (choose at least one activity) Science – Evolution Plot a bar graph showing the lengths of five rivers in the UK. Design a table which gives information about five different rivers. Think carefully about what headings to choose. Interview a family member to find out what characteristics you have inherited. Draw a picture of yourself and label them. Find a poem about a river and explain why you like it. Make an acrostic poem using the word RIVER. Find a poem about a river and write an extra verse. Draw a picture of a camel and label how it is adapted to its environment. Write a list of the bridges that cross the River Thames. Find out three interesting facts about one bridge which crosses the River Thames. Why was the Thames important to the development of London? Research and write a paragraph. Write a letter home to your family describing your adventures. Create a picture of a river scene using a technique of your choice. Find an artist who has painted a river scene and do your own copy of it. Make a collage of a river scene using colours you would associate with rivers. Design a storyboard showing a river from its start to its end at the sea. What did you find out during our trip to the Natural History Museum? List five animals that live in a British river habitat. Choose one animal that lives in or around British rivers. Draw it and explain how it is suited to its environment. Compare the animals living in a British river habitat with a river in a different country (e.g. the Nile or the Amazon) Draw a food chain for animals living in a river habitat. Imagine you have been on a boat trip on the Thames. Write a diary entry recounting your day. Imagine you have visited a river in a foreign country. Make a mind map showing the different uses of rivers. Make a poster showing the causes and effects of river pollution. Week 1 Find the five longest rivers in the world and write their lengths. Choose a river, write its length in kilometres, metres and miles. Find a poem about a river and copy it out. Draw a human and another primate (e.g. gibbon, gorilla, orangutan) label the similarities and differences between them. Research one piece of evidence Charles Darwin used to support his theory of evolution. (E.g. beaks of birds on the Galapagos Islands). Imagine you are an early supporter of Darwin’s theory of evolution. Design a pamphlet informing people about evolution. Create a mind map showing everything you have learned about evolution.
