English Task The Anglo-Saxons used a different figure of speech known as a ‘kenning’. A kenning substitutes a noun with two other words that, when compounded together, describe the noun. What is the book about? (Don’t ruin the ending!) Who is the main character – what are their character traits? Where is the story set? What is the most interesting thing about the book? What book would you compare it to and why? Who would enjoy reading this book and why? English Task The Anglo Saxons enjoyed word play and told riddles for entertainment. For instance, “wave-vat” is a kenning for “ocean,” and “battle-torch” is used in place of “sword” (and more specifically, a sword that has been sharpened until it shines like a torch). Write your own kenning about an animal – real or mythical! Research 3 riddles, then have a go at writing your own. Eg: I appear on the ground like a blanket, and melt in the midday sun. What am I? Computing Task In addition, one week you can make a blog contribution. Leave 3 constructive comments on different blog posts. Avoid just praise (e.g. ‘Nice work!’) Explain what you like about it, can you ask a question?
