Directors Letter – April 2017
Memorials & Donations
Wow! I can’t believe how much money we raised together at the Steak Dinner and Cake
Auction! We netted $7,671! Thank you to all those who baked and those who bid! But a
really huge thank you to chairs Dawn Board who coordinated all the cakes and Adriana
Armstrong, our chef! What an amazing crew of volunteers they had! Plus the girl scouts
did the centerpieces and the Cedarcrest 6th grades Girls Basketball team helped with set
up, tear down and assisted during the event as well! All together we raised funds for our
Outreach program for those who are homebound. You all directly made a difference in the
lives of those in our Valley.
I love the Snoqualmie Valley and our Senior Center. I love the friendly, family feeling here.
I grew up on a ranch so I really enjoy the small town atmosphere where I can go to the
store and see people I know. That makes volunteering and donating so satisfying too. The money is going to
assist those people we have known for years and those neighbors we haven’t met yet. I feel like the Sno-Valley
Senior Center (SVSC) is a focal point in this community. It is a gathering place for friends, as well as senior
citizens and their families. Isn’t that what the cake auction felt like - the whole community (all ages) coming
together to have fun and help neighbors?
The Plant Sale (May 5 & 6) is another great community event here at SVSC. You can buy the plants you need
plus know you are helping others. The hanging baskets are for sale now, and tickets are available for the First
Picks Party on May 4 for those who want first choice of the plants while enjoying a great party! Kim Lisk is
chair of the party so you know it’s going to be good! Darcy Dinwiddie is our Plant Sale chair and she is
working hard with her committee to make this the best year yet!
Give BIG is an opportunity to give on-line on Wednesday, May 10th. The donations you give to Sound
Generations (in the memo write “Sno-Valley”) will be partially matched by the Seattle Foundation! What an
awesome way to multiply your giving! Check it out at https://www.givebigseattle.org/
Finally, I want to share a letter I received years ago that I saved because it touched me so much.
“I moved here after my husband died two years ago. My only child, a son who lives here has been fighting cancer
for years so his help is limited. I was in severe depression and not too well physically so I welcomed the well
balanced meals on a regular basis along with the social contact. I was immediately welcomed by the members
who made me feel special. They were all so loving and giving, not only to me but to each and everyone. The many
different programs at the Center are wonderful for all of us. What would we do without this wonderful Center.
Lisa, thank you for all you do.”
Thank you to all you who donate and volunteer so SVSC can be here for those who need us.
Thank you! Lisa Yeager, Director

prepared meals. Registration is necessary. Please
see Kira if you are interested in receiving
meals. You can apply online at

a group of wonderful volunteers! Every week you

Starbucks Treats
Monday-Friday
Our center is lucky to be a part of the Harvest
Roll-Out program, which allows us to pick up the
extra food that Starbucks has from the day before,
so that it doesn’t go to waste! We were one of the
first test sites for this program and it
has been a huge success across the
state and country! We are grateful
that Richard Pavilon goes to pick up
the food every day he is here.
Try a new class or return
after 3 months and take that
class for free!
