The SEAT IBX als o boas ts exceptionally utility and outs tanding vers atility, as well as s us tainable mobility through res ource cons ervation. Its drive would come from an advanced hybrid powertrain that combines local zero-emis s ions electromobility in the city with the extens ive cros s -country range of an internal combus tion engine. In laying the groundwork for SEAT’s innovative, further developed des ign language, the compact IBE electric s ports coupé from las t year met with enormous res onance and pos itive feedback. The IBX now demons trates the evolutionary development of this new genetic code from SEAT Des ign – in a completely different vehicle architecture, a cros s over between SUV and s ports coupé. The s porty alternative in the SUV s egment At a length of 4.26 metres , the SEAT IBX expands Europe’s extremely s ucces s ful compact SUV s egment with a highly dynamic and unique des ign alternative. And with its combination of compact dimens ions and wide-ranging vers atility, the IBX is the perfect fit for an active lifes tyle in the world’s urban areas . DETERMINED RENEWAL OF THE BRAND “With the IBX, we are once again demons trating jus t how intens ively we are working on the renewal of the SEAT brand, and how determined we are to develop for the future,” s ays James Muir, Pres ident of SEAT, S.A. “The IBX repres ents the values of the SEAT brand perfectly – with its unique des ign, its youthful energy and its outs tanding s us tainability as a res ult of its hybrid drive concept. Even though a decis ion has yet to be taken, we could certainly envis age the IBX as a future expans ion of our product portfolio.” Des ign – pure precis ion and s porting fines s e Following the IBE from 2010, the IBX offers a further, extremely promis ing ins ight into the ongoing development of the SEAT Des ign world. The pure forms , the precis e lines and the exact s urfaces of the IBX convey the s ame dis tinctive des ign language that, in its modernity, s us tains and s trengthens the SEAT identity. Perfect cros s over from SUV to s ports coupé As the firs t evolution of this new des ign line, the IBX demons trates jus t how well this des ign language works in combination with a completely different vehicle architecture and s ignificantly larger dimens ions . In its proportions , the IBX is a s ports utility vehicle, but in its appearance it is clearly a s ports coupé – it is hard to imagine more accurate expres s ion of the word “cros s over”. THE GENE POOL OF THE NEXT GENERATION “The IBX was created from the gene pool of our next vehicle generation. This des ign DNA will have a profound impact on every one of our models ,” s ays SEAT Chief Des igner Luc Donckerwolke. “And, with this urban s ports utility vehicle, we are proving that with our des ign, our s porty pedigree and our youthful character, we can als o create a vehicle concept that is unique among SUVs .” Compact format with powerful proportions At a length of 4.26 metres , the SEAT IBX is relatively compact. However, its width of 1.80 meters and height of 1.62 meters ens ure powerful proportions . And even though the IBX pos s es s es the full vers atility and utility of an SUV, with its two doors , s tretched roofline and dis tinctive rear roof pillar it forms the perfect cros s over between s ports utility vehicle and clas s ic s ports coupé. Sharp look courtes y of LED headlamps The front of the SEAT IBX is defined by headlamps in full-LED technology that are as s ophis ticated as they are dis tinctive. They dis play the characteris tic V that is a hallmark of the SEAT arrow des ign. The entire front end bears this arrow s hape, with radiator grille and bonnet als o picking up the V-form. The s urfaces above the wheel arches are clearly accentuated in their lines like carefully toned, s inuous mus cle. Equally dis tinctive are the air intakes low down on the front end and featuring integrated fog lamps – their wide pos itioning reinforces the impres s ion of width and power. Dis tinctive precis ion along the flanks The s ide view of the IBX emphas is es its powerful s tature – a clearly defined s houlder, the powerful, three-dimens ional flanks and the s harply differentiated s urfaces unders core the dynamic look, as do the large wheels featuring an aerodynamic five twin-s poke des ign. Typical for SEAT are the two dis tinctive s cores that run from the front wheel arch into the door and over the rear wheel arch. The length of the s tretched roofline is further emphas is ed by the rear s poiler and the narrow horizontal of the glas s s urfaces along the s ides , with the dis tinctive, trapezoidal roof pillar creating the impres s ion of exceptional s olidity. The s harply cut exterior mirror is mounted on the door, as on a s ports car. Sharp precis ion is als o evident in the s lender, reces s ed door openers . Light-guide rear lights featuring arrow des ign The rear end adopts the characteris tic form of the front and reinterprets it. The rear lights in LED light-guide technology and the rear winds creen with its additional angle in the centre als o bear the arrow motif, while the s ugges tion of a diffus er beneath the bumper s urface derives its form from the front air intakes . Perfect des ign needs no ornamentation The entire vehicle bears no ornamentation – perfect des ign requires no decoration. Every s ingle line has the function of s tructuring the volume and s urfaces of the car, each of the mus cles emerging from the form emphas is ing the s porty des ign. The reduction of form cons is tently applied and the precis ion in every detail are fixed features of the SEAT Des ign philos ophy – even more in the future than before. CONCEPT – FLEXIBLE MOBILITY WITH RESPONSIBILITY The modern, young lifes tyle has many facets , offering endles s options for job and leis ure time, for friends and family. However, as a partner in mobility, the automobile mus t be jus t as multi-faceted. The IBX has the perfect format – it boas ts plenty of interior s pace and the variability to meet all requirements , yet it remains agile and compact enough to fit the bill on the s treets and parking s paces of an urban area. And this is where a vehicle height of 1.62 metres with its s uitably lofty s eating pos ition is invaluable. Particularly in dens e urban traffic it delivers enormous benefits in terms of vis ibility, leading to greater s afety and a relaxed form of s uperiority. Z ero emis s ions in the city with excellent range cros s -country The drive concept is perfect for the mobility requirements of an urban area, while meeting pers onal expectations of freedom. The vehicle, with its electric range of 45 kilometres , can cover many everyday journeys – with zero local emis s ions and s us tainable res pons ibility. And yet its range is not limited, pers onal freedom always guaranteed – unlimited mobility is s upplied courtes y of the internal combus tion engine Pos s ible candidates are the s tate-of-the-art direct injection TDI and TSI engines from the modern SEAT line-up. And, of cours e, the IBX is equipped with all the efficiency technologies from the ECOMOTIVE program. In its bas e configuration, the IBX is s et up for front wheel drive. However, a modern 4WD s ys tem might be an option for further enhanced mobility.
