Season of Beauty
As we continue in the Season of Beauty that prepares us for Easter, several
questions have surfaced about beauty. What would you trade for beauty?
What would you offer for one perfect hour of peace? In her poem, Barter,
Sara Teasdale describes life as having loveliness (beauty) to sell. In the
structure of 18 lines, with each word carrying meaning, Teasdale reminds us
that divinity is expressed in the many forms of surrounding beauty. Would you
spend all you have been, or could be, in pursuit of this loveliness?
Life has loveliness to sell,
All beautiful and splendid things,

Blue waves whitened on a cliff,
Soaring fire that sways and sings,
And children's faces looking up
Holding wonder like a cup.
Life has loveliness to sell,
Music like a curve of gold,
Scent of pine trees in the rain,
Eyes that love you, arms that hold,
And for your spirit's still delight,
Holy thoughts that star the night.

Spend all you have for loveliness,
Buy it and never count the cost;
For one white singing hour of peace
Count many a year of strife well lost,
And for a breath of ecstasy
Give all you have been, or could be.

February 22, 2016
One day at lunch with the Ranchers, one of the quiet
and unassuming men came up to me with a question:
“Why would someone hurt me for staring at them?”
Then he told me how his Caregiver had caught him staring at two people and had scolded him for staring.
It was one of those teachable moments and one that
needed great care. “Do you remember how it felt when
someone was staring at you?” I asked. He thought a
long time and said, “it made me angry. It made me feel
uncomfortable and I didn’t like that!” When I repeated
his response, he said, “Oh, it makes others uncomfortable and angry!” An “ah-ha” moment.
When you send a gift to Rainbow acres, you enable
Ranchers to have “ah-ha” moments, as well as moments of great breakthroughs in developing new skills,
knowing the meaning of friendship and rising to new
levels of maturity.
Thank you for your recent contribution! It has been
said, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step!” So it is with the Ranchers; whatever their level of ability, learning and growth often begin with a simple question, clarification or observation. With your
support yo8u help create a safe environment that enables each Rancher to grow and mature into lives of purpose. Thank you!
For the Ranchers!
