November 2016 NEWS Message from the Director We are very excited that the restoration of our historical windows has been started by Bagala Windows. For the next couple of months we will have the shades drawn over the temporary vinyl insulation while we are awaiting the return of our windows. This project is possible because of your support and a matching grant from Grants to Green, a partnership between the Maine Development Foundation’s Downtown Center, Efficiency Maine and the Maine Community Foundation, funded by Kendeda Fund of the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta. November is our annual appeal month. We hope you agree with us that our library has become a unique community resource and that we can count on your support to maintain and expand upon our diverse offering of programs and services. Don’t forget we now have a private study room for our patrons to use. I wish you a very happy Thanksgiving. Anna Römer Free Concert & Informational Talk with Hospice Choir: SING NOW! Youth Book Group For boys and girls in grades 3,4 & 5 with Mr. Chaz and Ms. Liz Thurs. November 17, 2:30 - 4 PM “Instinct told them that the way home lay to the west. And so the doughty young Labrador retriever, the roguish bull terrier, and the indomitable Siamese set out through the Canadian wilderness. Separately, they would soon have died. But, together, the three house pets faced starvation, exposure, and wild forest animals to make their way home to the family they love.” But… but… but… how do they make it home? Do they miss many meals? (Mr. Chaz is afraid of missing meals.) Are there wild llamacorns in Canada? The suspense is killing me! Join us in reading “The Incredible Journey” by Sheila Burnford to find out the answers to these questions - and more! Visit the library to request your copy today. Free library card to the first 5 youths to spot a llamacorn. Seriously. New Program: Family Game Night Starting Friday November 4, 5-7 PM We are bringing back Family Game Night! For many years this was a very popular event at our library and a whole new generation of children and parents would like to start it up again. Starting November 4 the program will take place every first and third Friday of the month (except for December 2nd because of Tree Lighting Party). Game Night is for game lovers of all ages! We ask that children under the age of 12 be accompanied by a parent or guardian. We will break out our collection of board games, playing cards, and dominoes and let you and your family, neighbors and friends have at them. You can also bring your own game if you think we do not have it. We promise you do not have to play with your own children. We will serve free pizza and juice! We will have a donation jar out for those who would like to help pay for the refreshments but this is not required. If you are planning on coming please let us know by calling 925-3177 so we can make sure there is pizza for all! Annual Tree Lighting with Santa and Mrs. Claus! Friday, December 2 at 6:30 PM Safe this December date now! After we light the tree we will sing carols, helped by carolers from the Lovell UCC. If we sing loud enough Santa and Mrs. Claus might stop by. They usually travel through Lovell on a big red fire truck. All children present will have a chance to visit with Santa and receive a small gift. Hot chocolate, coffee and desert items will be served. We need lots of help with baking Holiday bars and cookies. You can sign up at the library. Another way to help out is to make a monetary donation towards the literary gifts that Santa gives to every child that attends the tree lighting. Come join your neighbors for some Holiday cheer. ART UNDERFOOT Floorcloth Sale Saturday November 26, 10 - 1 PM Over the past five years, Paula and Tom Hughes have created, exhibited and sold over 400 of their floorcloths in more than 25 art fairs throughout New England. They have been exhibitors in our Arts and Artisans Fair every year since 2012. Paula’s floorcloths are made of canvas and they are painted and finished with industrial marine grade acrylic. Her floorcloths are beautiful, easy to clean and very durable; they last for years. Sadly, the Hughes’ have decided to close their business and spend more of their time traveling, visiting family and taking a little “time off”. The good news is that they have decided to exhibit their remaining 18 floorcloths in a special “Closeout” sale where the balance of their floorcoths will be sold at a 25% discount. Their “Closeout” sale will be November 26th in the King Community Room of the Library. We are very grateful the Hughes’ will donate 15% of their receipts to the Library. Several of their floorcloths will be on display in the Library prior to the sale. The Hughes are very excited to be offering the balance of their beautiful floorcloths at a discount in Lovell, a community that has been very supportive of their business over the past five years. The floorcloths “Closeout” sales will take place on Saturday, November 26th, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the lower level of the Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library. We encourage you to stop buy and look over their floorcloths and to wish the Hughes well with their travel plans. These unique floorcloths make a great Christmas present!
