Lanier Health Services Employee Newsletter June 2010

Lanier Health Services Employee Newsletter June 2010
May was an extremely busy, but fun month. Employees celebrated Hospital and
Nursing Home Week, May 9th—15th. Employees celebrated with a “Party on the
Patio” with grilled hamburgers, wonderful weather, and fun atmosphere. Chef Brian
grilled hamburgers, which were served to employees by Doug Dewberry, Tommy
Lane, and Eve Wallace. Employees enjoyed the food, fellowship, weather, and listening to music by “Jimmy Buffett”.
Hospital and Nursing Home Week Celebration
The Annual Golf Tournament was held at the Riverside Country Club on May 17th.
Lanier Health Services held their 12th Annual Golf Tournament at the
Riverside Country Club on Friday, May 14th. The Lanier Golf Committee, led by Mike Harris, was able to host 26 teams in the most successful
tournament yet for Lanier. There were numerous local businesses that
contributed generous donations for the fundraiser.
Along with the Top 3 winning teams, Chambers County Development
Authority, Team Gautney, and Batson Cook, prizes were given for “The
Longest Drive” and “Closest to the Hole” categories. Following the tournament, there were door-prize drawings that were donated from several
local businesses and a wonderful hamburger cook-out with food supplied
through Morrison’s.
The proceeds of the tournament are designated for much needed
equipment and room renovations for the hospital. We are very appreciative of all the support and would like to extend a big THANK YOU to
everyone who helped make this a success for Lanier!

Lanier’s Farmers Market on the River
May is a wonderful time for fresh
produce. We had a blast at the
annual farmer’s market on the
river on our remodeled patio.
Everyone enjoyed all of the fresh
fruits and vegetables that were offered. These included Georgia
peaches, strawberries, bananas,
fresh herbs, cantaloupes, cabbage,
red potatoes, Vidalia onions, and
much more. These were purchased from Brown’s produce and
our local vendor. Chef Brian also
featured one of the many recipes
found in the Auxiliary Appetites
cookbook. He made Bananas Foster. Everyone loved it ! We
plan on having another market in
the middle of the summer. Hope
to see you there!

A Message from Security…………….
We continue to have some employees that do not park in employee designated areas.
Reminder... All employees must park in areas designated for employee parking.
Employees are not allowed to park in the front visitors parking lot, or the Physical
Therapy parking lot, with the exception of employees who work the 7P to 7A shift,
but they must remove their vehicle from the restricted parking area by the end of
their shift.
The Nursing Home front parking lot is designated for visitors only.
The first six parking spaces behind the Emergency Room and near the oxygen tank
are reserved for doctors. The other parking spaces below them are for Security or
Engineering. Employees should not park in the Emergency Room parking lot at anytime, unless it is patient related.
Violators will receive a warning and continuation of the violation could result in
further corrective actions.
DECON TEAM TRAINING AND DRILL
On Tuesday, March 30, 2010, Lanier Health Services conducted classroom training
and a drill with the decontamination team. The team started off with a review of
chemical toxicology where they reviewed past chemical and biological events. We
then covered proper personal protective equipment, reviewing the basic routes that
toxins can take to enter the body and why we need to protect ourselves. We also discussed the proper way to set up the decontamination zones. We finished the classroom work with everyone trying on and working with the respirators and chemical
suits. After a brief lunch break, the team participated in a drill where team members
actually donned full PPE and conducted a “no wash” decon drill.
Listed below are the Decontamination Team members:

Todd and Trisha Meacham’s son, LCpl Michael Meacham was honored recently by
the City of Valley with a commendation for heroism. Not thinking of the risk, Michael climbed 20 feet into an oak tree to assist a young man who was having a seizure,
unconscious and about to fall. Michael struggled to keep the young man from falling
until emergency crews arrived and were able to rescue him and transport him to
Lanier’s emergency department.
