Barrier Reef Pools is a boutique pool company, which is family owned and has operated for over 30 years. Our reputation
has been built on quality which sees more than 80% of our business coming through recommendation. With a total of
thirty five awards presented by SPASA (Swimming Pool & Spa Association) over the past four years, from 2009 through
to 2013 it is proof that our company has been identified as a clear market leader.

The B.R.P (Barrier Reef Pools) unique coping process
provides greater support than typical processes as the edge
of the fibreglass coping is left open to allow the Concrete
Bondbeam to lock under. This creates a solid foundation that
will not flex so paving can be laid or water features can be
added to the footings, which is similar to the foundations
you would build your home on.
The B.R.P. step design process is a time consuming but
vital part in our backfilling process. The backfill is water
compacted then pencil compacted under each step.
Klegecell/Divinycell Ribbing is 100% water resistant and
will never deteriorate. It is a lightweight core material that
provides stiffness and high impact resistance protection for
the life of your swimming pool. It is a full core ribbing with
no hollow voids. Klegcell is endorsed by Lloyds of London
Marine Insurer.
The typical fibreglass pool coping uses cardboard and
fibreglass to support the coping around the pool for paving.
Although this is popular and cost effective for the pool
builder there is nothing to prevent the backfill from washing
away. This may result in the coping of the pool flexing and
therefore paving to come loose.
The boxing off on the step area of a fibreglass pool saves
many hours of labour during the installation process,
however this also leaves large voids under each seat & step.
Although stiff in appearance cardboard ribbing is subject to
deterioration. Ground water and rainfall may be absorbed
causing the cardboard to rot away.

Pencil compaction is a ‘must
do’ around all pools as it is the
best way to fully consolidate the
excavated area between natural
ground and the pool. After
pencil compaction is completed
the ground is instantly firm and
therefore paving can start within
weeks instead of having to wait
months.
Timber boxing is formed up
around the pool 350mm wide.
Two rows of N-12 Bar (Reo Bar)
are laid between the perimeter
of the timber boxing and the
pool shell connecting into the
pool shell provisions.

Concrete is then poured around
the pool approx. 350mm wide x
150mm deep. The concrete is
then screeded to approx 15mm
– 20mm below the top edge
of the fibreglass. This footing
provides a solid foundation for
your pool headers to be fixed to
and therefore will not allow any
movement in the paving.
(Optional 250mm x 150mm is
also available).
As stated to the left concrete is
left 15-20mm below the fibreglass
edge. This is required so we can
use a thick layer of paving bond
between the concrete and the paver.
This 4 Step process enables us to
provide a 7 year paving guarantee
against any bullnose paving
becoming loose around the pool’s
edge (the paving company must
be accredited through Barrier Reef
Pools WA Pty Ltd).
