EUDAIMONIA – HUMAN SCIENCES RESEARCH CENTER

EUDAIMONIA – HUMAN SCIENCES RESEARCH CENTER / UNIVERSITY OF OULU
Lecture series: WW1 – perspectives of different human sciences on the causes and consequences
Eudaimonia is a cross-disciplinary human sciences research center established in 2013. A part of the
activities is events and lecture series that brings together researchers from different disciplines and that
have scientific and societal significance.
World War One started 100 years ago. In addition to its global impact, it is also significant historical period
from the Finnish perspective – in its aftermath Finland became an independent state. Recollection and
analysis of the various causes and consequences of the war matters both in terms of general
knowledgeability, but also as a path towards more general understanding of human actions and societies.
In Autumn 2014 Eudaimonia organizes a series of 10 lectures focused on causes and consequences of the
WWI. Experts from a number of organizations address the topic from the perspectives of various human
sciences. The series begins on 2.9.2014 and ends 11.11. 2014 i.e. exactly 100 years after the end of the
war. The target audience is interested students and researchers in human sciences and beyond.
