The weather continues to warm and the daylight increases each day. It’s impossible not to
get at least a little bit of spring fever! If this resonates with you, you’re in luck. Even
though we’ll take a break from our normal monthly chapter meetings, FPA of North
Alabama has lots of great events over the summer. There’s no excuse to get stuck in your
office all summer, so join us for the events below!
Barons Game – Wednesday, May 11th
Pro Bono One-On-One Counseling with Military Veterans – Wednesday, May 18th,
Wednesday, June 22nd, and Wednesday, July 20th

Guest Policy
In an effort to boost membership, we have removed the
financial incentive to be a continual guest at chapter
meetings. First time guests may attend a chapter
meeting at no charge. A guest’s second meeting
requires a $15 contribution. The third and all meetings
that follow will cost $50. As an incentive to join,
members receive great discounts for chapter meetings,
our golf outing, Symposium, plus access to free CE in
the Journal of Financial Planning. Between the networking,
continuing education and advocacy of our profession,
we believe that the cost of membership is far exceeded
by the value. Guest policy adopted by the 2014 FPANA
Board of Directors

ADVOCACY UPDATE

We have a bill!
Our IRA protection bill (SB337) went to the Alabama House Financial Services Committee on
Wednesday morning and received a unanimous favorable review. It is scheduled to go to the House floor for
a vote on Tuesday, May 3. SB337 was unanimously approved by the Senate. If it clears the House next
week, it will go to the governor to be signed into law.
I would encourage each FPA member to sign up for FPA Engage—an
easy way to keep informed about advocacy issues that affect us locally
and nationally. Sign up for FPA Engage: http://www.cqrcengage.com/fpa
FPA OF UA NOMINATED FOR AWARDS
KYLE WHITTINGTON, CFP®
The Financial Planning Association at The University of Alabama has had an incredible semester. Led by
board members Grace Martin (President), Wesley Wood (Vice-President), Ashley Burrell (Secretary), and
Ross Kennedy (Treasurer), the FPA at UA has garnered student and faculty support throughout the semester
through various speaking engagements and networking opportunities for members. The student chapter has
had the pleasure of hosting FPANA members throughout the year including Jesse Zora, Kyle Whittington,
Marshall Rathmell, Sandra Cleveland, Jay McGowan and many other professionals in the financial planning
industry. The FPA at UA was rewarded for their commitment to success with two nominations from
University of Alabama faculty members for The Service & Leadership Awards. The SAL Awards is an annual
recognition ceremony held to honor the contributions of campus organizations, as well as individuals, to
service and leadership within and outside of the UA community. In regard to campus leadership and service,
these are the highest honors that can be given to student organizations and individuals. The chapter was
nominated for Outstanding Professional Organization and President, Grace Martin was nominated for the Will
Byington Award for Student Officer of the Year.
Please join us in congratulating these young professionals on their hard work and dedication! Please keep the
UA chapter students in mind when opening your practice to new hires; these young professionals are
continually seeking employment and internship opportunities.
