Dear OV FamiliesThis month we are learning about kindness! Not just the I be nice to you—you be nice to me type, but the I am going to randomly be kind to you because it is going to make you feel be er kindness. What does kindness look like?
People who are kind:
• Refuse to tease or ridicule others.
• Show concern about the well-being and feelings of others.
• Prac'ce acts that meet the needs of others.
• Take care of the environment.
• Treat everyone fairly.
• Prac'ce acts that make others happy.
What does kindness sound like? People who are kind may say things like:
• How can I help?
•
Do you want to join us?
•
You go first, you seem 'red.
•
I’m sorry that I hurt your feelings. Are you okay?
•
Let’s pick up the trash.
Here are a few books that you can share as a family with kindness as the theme:
The Li0le Match Girl, By H.C. Anderson
The Lion and the Mouse, from Aesop’s Fables
Skateboard Scramble, by Barbara Douglas
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, by Roald Dahl.

PTA General Meeting
February 11, 2015
6:30-8:30PM
Olympic View Cafeteria
Dinner provided and childcare is available by calling Erin at Collabora'on Sta'on at (206) 524-6514.
Please join the PTA for an informa've discussion on how to talk with your kids about drug and alcohol use. It may seem too early,
but as you will discover, talking with our kids before middle school is very important in preven'ng drug and alcohol use in middle
school and high school. This presenta'on is geared for parents of 4th and 5th graders, but parents of younger students would
certainly benefit from hearing how to begin these discussions.
Speaker Carolyn Bernhard is a Co-Chair with Preven'on Works in Sea0le, whose mission is to prevent underage drinking, substance abuse, and associated problems through educa'on, advocacy, and networking with students, families, and the community.

Plant Sale News
It's February and that means it’s 'me to kick off some plant sale ac'vity. The PTA will be
hos'ng the 14th Annual Plant Sale on Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25. This fundraiser
allows OV families and the greater Maple Leaf community to buy something they would normally buy but have the profits go to help the students of Olympic View.
Long 'me chair Kathleen Zagers is ready to run the 2015 sale and is ready to develop the team
to run the sale in future years. Without a team in place this year, this could be the last
year! If interested in a leadership role on the plant sale team, contact Kathleen Zagers for
more informa'on about how to leverage your talents. A commi0ee is forming now and any
parent is welcome to join us. Contact Kathleen at kathleen.zagers @msn.com
