Attention to Safety: Inspect Your Piping
Help Restore the Shore.
NJNG owns and maintains the natural gas pipelines and the service lines that
lead up to your natural gas meter. However, safety does not stop at the meter.
It is the homeowner’s responsibility to inspect and maintain the pipes
from the outlet of the natural gas meter to your natural gas appliances
and equipment.
Many in our communities still face a long road to recovery. Here’s
your chance to help those who need it most with a donation to the
Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund – a 501(c)3 organization
created by Governor Christie and First Lady Mary Pat Christie.
These pipes can include fuel lines – both inside and outside your home or
business – and buried lines that lead to outdoor appliances (such as a grill) or
remote structures. Follow these safety tips to help prevent possible damage
to your property:
It’s easy to contribute. To donate $10, text JERSEY to 20222. Or make
an online donation at sandynjrelieffund.org. You can also make a
donation when you sign on to My Account and pay your NJNG bill
online by check, credit or debit card.
Have a licensed professional locate and inspect the buried natural gas lines
that originate from your meter and lead to your appliances and equipment.
And keep a copy of the diagram for future use.
Warm Thoughts for that Someone Special
Periodically inspect for leaks, corrosion and damage to your pipes and
equipment. When necessary, have a licensed professional immediately
make repairs.
Whether you are looking for the perfect Mother’s Day or Father’s Day
gift or you simply want to help a neighbor or family member in
need … NJNG has a great idea for you. A Warm Thoughts gift
certificate can be purchased for any NJNG customer for whichever
denomination you choose.
State LAW requires that all excavators – including homeowners, business
owners and contractors – MUST call 811 or 800-272-1000 for a free
markout of underground public utility lines at least three business days
prior to any planned digging.
It’s easy! Simply visit one of our business offices or go to the
Payment Options quick link at njng.com and click on Gift Certificate.
Follow the instructions to purchase a gift certificate and we’ll take
care of the rest.
An NJNG contractor will mark out the service line that comes from the
natural gas main to your meter. However, customer installed lines such as
fuel lines to gas grill, pool heaters and sprinkler systems, invisible fencing
or low-voltage lighting, are not marked by our contractor. So, before you
dig near buried pipes, use caution and hand locate the pipes in advance
and then dig by hand.
We’ll send you a Warm Thoughts gift certificate to present to the
recipient and automatically apply the gift payment to the recipient’s
NJNG account on the date you request. For additional information,
please call 800-221-0051.
At NJNG, attention to safety is our top priority – make it yours too! For more
information about natural gas safety, visit My Safety at njng.com.
