Approval of minutes of last meeting-‐ Minutes were approved as submitted 3. Roberts Rules of Order-‐ The reminder on the meeting procedures re. Roberts rules of order was given. 4. Principal’s Report – (N. Pietrini)-‐ -‐Largest discussion point of the evening was how to make best use of PTA expenses versus the Funds raised by the School as well as discuss the ongoing raising of funds for the school and ongoing and potential contracting items. -‐ Other general items reminder: -‐ Instructional leadership-‐ -‐Comprehensive Health Education program-‐ CPS rolled out a couple years back, CPS mandate and HSA coming into compliance to get these units done. Happening in Gym class through 4th grade, 5th grade with teacher, 6-‐8 in science class. Gym teachers, 1 30 minute lesson every week with each class. PE teachers see the whole group K-‐4. Communicated out to parents-‐ when it was only happening in 5th and 7th, the parents were getting better information. Q&A: Do parents have access to the content? 5th grader came home with information and the content seemed advanced based off parent feedback. Similar view shared with 4th grade lesson. Figuring out how to find the appropriate balance with the content driven by CPS versus what the parents feel is appropriate content. Concern that the kids aren’t understanding/interpreting incorrectly from friends on playground compared to what they hear in class. -‐Alderman update-‐ -‐HSA hosting and running an event for the entire north side. HSA hosting in auditorium on March7-‐ bringing in Amundsen and Lakeview high school ‘teams’ from the school-‐ students, teachers, etc., as to why students should consider these schools. Invited all 17 feeder schools __________________________________________________________________________________________

with emphasis on JH kids. Within the right timeframe (kids just getting their application/enrollment packages). Principals here with Q&A and breakout sessions. Hoping that community will get excited by these schools. Looking for HSA parents to act as hosts. -‐ Class gift-‐ -‐Got the curtains and they were installed already since last meeting. Many thanks to Lori for her work and coordination and to the 8th graders for the gift. -‐ Other Improvement Projects-‐ -‐Looking at new options for the Clifton street curb improvement options-‐ gathering quotes. Expected between a few hundred to $5000. Bricks won’t work for the actual structure but a brick campaign was considered. Excess could fund Clifton street, and could be a nice add/patio. -‐Playground update-‐ looking at price/cost and. is pursuing costing/surveying/funding sourcing and quoting for the playground improvement. Not near term but in the range to start planning for getting done with local elected official support over the next 2-‐3 years. Estimated costs $150-‐170k. -‐ Need 2 chromebook carts by end of school year. Potentially fundraise at the auction specifically for the carts or use funds on hand from internal account funds. Existing carts being used all day every day so when shutting down to use for testing for 2-‐3 weeks, it presents a problem. Need by end of year MAP testing. -‐Budgeting-‐ -‐Reviewed PTA and HSA budget Packet. -‐ Follow on from last month’s discussion. Additional restrictions may be placed on money from CPS from money that was raised from using the school facilities (turf rental, lot, etc.) Thus the need to be strategic on spend and timing. -‐Went through processes to note the 5 different thing that these funds can pay for that the PTA is currently paying for. -‐Really priority right now are the outlined 5-‐6 different flowcharts to be able to transfer the funds over. Need to set up monthly meetings between PTA, Clerk, HSA to be able to account and track. -‐Detailed Discussion of the list of 124 fund generating contracting.(attached) 5. 1st Public Comment-‐ None Noted 6. Committee Reports: •
