2)Please refrain from using your cellphones in class. Please make them silent

If your phone is continuously being used during classtime, it will be confiscated
and the admisistration will be notified. Cell phones will be put away during
test/quizzes.

Course Description (ACCN:MAX1150:)
Students understand the concepts in Algebra 1 and are able to perform
various problems in detail. In algebra 1, students learn about two types of
function, linear and quadratic. This course is a one year course and is required
for graduation. Upon completrion of this course, students will earn 1 credit.
6
Units:
1st Quarter: Pre-Algebra and Intro to Functions
2nd Quarter: Linear Functions and inequalities
3rd Quarter: Systems of Equations and Graph of Functions
4th Quarter: Quadratic Functions
7
Grading:
My grading philosophy is not by how many points you can get or how many
right answers you can obtain on a test. Mr.Pacheco believes students should
be graded on how much they improve. Mr.Pacheco understands some student
cannot perform well on exams for various reasons.
7.1
Classwork/Groupwork
In class, students will do classwork on various problems. This includes but
is not limited to, group presentations, and class worksheets, This will all count
for a total of 20% of your grade.
7.2
Homework:
Homework is a very important aspect for a student’s development in mathematics. There will be typical homework given that will be straight foward
problems. Then there will be weekly homework that will contain problems that
2
Mr. Pacheco will create. These problems will be longer and more indepth. Here
is a guideline on how to approach these homework problems.
1) Asess the problem, write down your givens.
2) Show all work and explain how you got to your conclusion.
3)If the student has no idea how to do the problem, that is okay. The student
can explain what they think they can do on the problem as best as they can.
4) Draw a picture about the problem and see if it can help.
Homework will be counted for 40% of your grade. Homework will be conducted
in class and any work that is not finished must be finished at home.
7.3
Exams:
There will be 4 exams throughout the year after each quarter. I understands
that sometimes we are not prepared for tests. Maybe you had a stressful week
or you may have tests for another class that may be on the same day as my
test. Out of the 4 exams, I will drop the lowest score. And only the top 3 exam
scores will be counted toward your grade. Each exam is worth 10% for a total
of 30% of your grade.
7.4
Quizzes:
There will be a quiz after evey section. The quiz will be a short 10-15min
quiz at the beginning of class. Quizzes are worth 10% of your total grade.
7.5
Corrections:
Students are able to do corrections on their exams for half points back per
problem. For example, if a student obtained a 5 out of 10, then corrects it, that
student will recieve 2.5 points back for a total of 7.5 out of 10.
8
Late Work:
Late work will be accepted. After the assignment is one week late, I will
start to take off 10% for every week it is late after the first week.
9
Grading Scale:
Grades will be administered as follows,
90% − 100% − A
80% − 89% − B
70% − 79% − C
60% − 69% − D
0% − 59% − F

Office Hours:
I will have office hours to hold lectures that may need to be retaught, makeup work for those that were absent, or for more challenging work if students
desire more of a challenge. My office hours are Tuesdays 2 - 2:45 pm or by
appointment.
