AT A GLANCE
ABOUT US
Commitment to Leadership and Service
More than 40 challenging majors and preprofessional programs
are just one way Jewell prepares you for life beyond college. The
Pryor Leadership Studies Program is a selective program that
complements any major, offering academic instruction and
experiential learning such as an Outward Bound trip in the
Florida Everglades, internships and a Senior Legacy Project. In
recent years, Pryor Leadership Fellows have organized projects
such as an inner-city community garden, preschool literacy
program, Stewards of Children training program for area
schools, state-of-the-art sports complex for children with
disabilities and a playground and second-grade classroom at a
startup urban school.
Our students embrace the value of being responsible stewards of
our resources and take an active role in affecting change for
social justice. Through our core curriculum and the Center for
Justice and Sustainability, you can raise awareness and create
solutions for complex community and global issues.
Serving others, a founding principle of Jewell's mission, is also a
core belief of our students. Last year, we contributed more than
82,520 hours of community service worldwide. You can teach
elementary students about finance to break the cycle of poverty,
repair homes in an urban neighborhood, organize a food pantry
or help bring electricity to a rural Honduran village.
Financial Aid and Scholarships
We offer generous aid packages so you can experience the value
of a Jewell education and have the freedom to grow through
internships, independent research, study abroad programs,
campus leadership and so much more. In 2015, Jewell provided
more than $20.1 million in scholarships, with need-based
scholarships for first-year students averaging $22,452. Estimate
your financial aid at www.jewell.edu/netpricecalculator.

more. Available after your sophomore year, Journey Grants fund a minimum of $2,000 per student for the experience
of a lifetime. Shadow physicians in Croatia. Distribute eyeglasses on a mission trip to Mexico. Use knowledge from

about sports marketing? Tour the San Francisco 49ers operation and meet with the staff. Students have traveled to 58
countries with their grants, learning something about the world and even more about themselves.

William Jewell College
Kansas City Connections
Behind every great college is a great community – or in our case, two great
communities. Located in charming, historic Liberty, Missouri, Jewell is just
15 miles from Kansas City. The downtown skyline view from our campus
Quad serves as a reminder that our proximity to a major American
metropolis presents endless cultural and career opportunities.
Known for its arts and entertainment attractions, Kansas City offers The
Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art,
Crossroads Arts District and The Plaza Arts Fair. Attend the ballet,
symphony, outdoor amphitheater or a Sprint Center concert. Like history?
Don’t miss the acclaimed National World War I Museum and Memorial,
Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, Union Station and the American Jazz
Museum, for starters.
The KC sports scene is always in season: the world-champion Royals and
T-Bones baseball, Chiefs football, Sporting Kansas City soccer, Mavericks
ice hockey, American Royal rodeo, Kansas Speedway races and the National
Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. Destination shopping with distinctive
districts – from the Country Club Plaza to secondhand shops – and
top-rated restaurants are great weekend outings in the City of Fountains.
And don’t forget to try some world famous barbecue at hotspots like Arthur
Bryant’s, Joe’s Kansas City, Gates, Q39 and Jack Stack.
Liberty, with a population of
30,000 and growing, was
founded as a frontier trading
post on the Missouri River in
1822 as the second oldest town
west of the Mississippi. Jewell sits
on the edge of one of six districts
on the National Register of
Historic Places. The downtown,
with its charming boutiques and
local eateries surrounding the
Square, as well as urban
attractions and large retailers are
within minutes of campus. The
green space, giving spirit,
affordable housing and top-rated
schools landed Liberty the No. 3
spot in Family Circle Magazine’s
“Best Towns and Cities for
Families,” the No. 7 ranking by
CNN/Money “Best Places to
Live” and a spot in Missouri Life's
“Top 10 Missouri towns” in
recent years.
Don’t just visit Kansas City – connect. With more than 82,000 employers located 30 miles from campus and
Jewell’s partnerships with alumni and KC leaders, students have more access than ever to internships, mentors,
research programs and careers.

Jewell, they are welcomed into an ‘amazing
community’ replete with ‘top-notch academics.’ As
one senior says, ‘Everyone on campus makes you
feel at home and the faculty and staff are some of
the most genuine people you will ever meet.’
Moreover, as a small liberal arts college, William
Jewell ‘provides a superb education’ that many
undergrads here feel is ‘unmatched in the Midwest.’ ”
