WHERE TO ENTER:
Photo FS4-1 shows the front of Fire Station 4 from Whisman Road. The entrance is in the rear
of the fire station off of the parking lot. Drive down the driveway to the left of station and turn
right into the parking lot (FS4-2). FS4-3 shows the rear entrance to the fire station. As you face
the rear entrance of the fire station, park on the left side of the parking area, or park on the other
side of the entrance road in the parking lot to the left as you enter on the entrance road.
If the door is locked use the code provided by the AEC to enter the building. Call out to make
sure that anyone there knows you have entered. The cable drop is in the second office that is
shown in picture FS4-4, to the right of the Chief’s office.
LOCATON OF THE CABLE DROP
After entering the back door, you will see the classroom when you turn right. Just to the left of
that door is a hallway. Go down the hall and go into the second office on your left. Photo FS4-5
shows the office from the hall door. The cable is the heavy coax coming down from the ceiling
in the right rear corner and runs behind the desk that is in the corner and also behind the desk
to the right. You may have to trace the coax to find the connector. It is likely you will find a thin
coax connected to the heavy coax. Disconnect the light coax (ignore the warning to call a
number when you disconnect) and connect your extension coax cable to it. Photo FS4-6 shows
the coax laying on top of equipment on the desk. Note that there is a gray clipboard/storage
container hanging on the wall above and to the left of the desk (FS4-7). There are message
forms in that container.
WHERE TO SET UP YOUR RADIO
The best place to set up your radio is on the desk in the corner. You may need an extension
coax cable to do that. You can plug into the wall power or use battery power. The power in that
building has a backup generator, but you should have your own battery power.
After you are done, put the clipboard/storage container back on the wall and reconnect the small
coax to the large coax cable.
