CIP Church Planting Director

CIP Church Planting Director
Approved by the Central Indiana Presbytery (CIP) on 11/13/15
Job Purpose
The CIP Church Planting Director leads and cultivates the CIP as a church planting ecosystem and church
planting movement. Specifically, this involves overseeing the implementation of the 2020 Church Planting
and Outreach (CPO) vision and strategic plan. The Church Planting Director reports directly to the CIP’s
Church Planting & Outreach Team. The CPO Team will interview and recommend a candidate for this
position, but the CIP will vote on this hire, as he’ll be a CIP staff member.
Job Responsibilities
Ø Vision and Strategic Plan: Oversee the implementation of CPO’s 5-year Vision and Strategic Plan.
Please see the attached CPO Team Vision statement to understand the scope of this director role.
Ø Developing: Identify candidates and core groups on a ‘grass roots’ level and work with the Leadership
Team to identify church planting prospects.
Ø Recruiting: Assist the CIP churches in developing the next generation of church planters and site
pastors, including church planting internships and apprenticeships. Attend PCA church planting
Assessment Center as needed for recruitment. Visit Covenant, Reformed, and Westminster
Seminaries as necessary for recruitment.
Ø Assessing: Lay the groundwork for a locally-run ‘pre-assessment’ process for prospective CIP church
planters. (An example is the model developed by Dr. Phil Douglass at Covenant.) This assessing role
will include meeting with individuals and groups interested in a new PCA church in their community
within the CIP.
Ø Funding: Raise funds for the CIP Church Planting Director position, potentially on a matching basis
(i.e. equal to the amount the CIP pays); cultivate CIP churches to give 3% for our church planting
vision; cultivate CIP, denominational, and non-PCA donors to support the CIP’s vision for church
planting.
Ø Training: Facilitate monthly training for CIP church planters and provide individual on-the-job
coaching.
Ø Placing: Assess and place church planters in neighborhoods and with launch teams where they best fit.
Assist in placement problem solving and working with CIP church planting core groups as requested.
Ø Gospel Coaching: Ensure that every CIP church planter has a Gospel Coach who can mentor them in
gospel dynamics as they relate to starting and leading a new work.
Ø Partnership with Parakaleo: Ensure that all church planter wives connect with the CIP Parakaleo
ministry, which provides friendship, training and encouragement to wives as they process God’s
unfolding work.
Ø Other Pastoral Duties: Preach as needed in the CIP, with special priority given to church plants in
order to provide the church planter with a reprieve. Serve as a church planting consultant to CIP
sessions as requested.
