Bay of Plenty Cricket Trust
Rare Bird Sighting in
Kopurererua Valley
Receives $50K Boost
The Bay of Plenty Cricket Trust can move forward with the
development of its new pavilion after receiving a $50,000 donation
from Pub Charity in January. Construction of the toilets and a storage
area was completed in December last year and the Trust intends to
start on the pavilion stage later this year.
A Matuku (Australasian bittern) has been sighted by contractors in
Kopurererua Valley near an area of maturing re-vegetation that was
planted by the Kopurererua Valley Rotary Centennial Trust.
Rotary Centennial Trust Chairman Ian Wilson says “this is a great
milestone and a real boost for all of us involved in the restoration
work in Kopurererua Valley. The benefits of over nine years of native
planting and other work is really starting to show, it’s just fantastic.”
There are fewer than 1000 of the birds left in New Zealand and
they are a potential indicator of wetland health because they are
dependent on the presence of high quality, ecologically diverse
habitats and rich food supplies.
Principal City Partners
Kelvin Jones, General Manager of the Bay of Plenty Cricket Trust
is appreciative of the support received. He says “the Pub Charity
donation certainly helps towards achieving our dream of developing
a facility we can all be proud of. We have applied to host the 2014
Cricket World Cup qualifying tournament so a completed pavilion
would be vital for that event.”
Bay of Plenty Cricket is supported by Craigs Investment Partners
through the City Partnership programme.

It’s all about the kids for the City
Partners taking part in this year’s
Children’s Day event and those
involved say it’s just part of their
ongoing support for community
projects in the city.
There will be loads of
exciting activities for kids to enjoy
as well as some great entertainment
on the stage. The theme for
Children's Day 2013 is
‘Magical Animals’.
Children’s Day is a day of free fun for the whole family
organised by Tauranga City Council. The event is being
held on Sunday 3 March from 11am – 2pm at the Historic
Village on 17th Avenue.
All the activities are completely free and the event is only
made possible by the support of City Partners, volunteers,
sponsors and the participation of community organisations.
Children's Day is all about parents and
caregivers spending time with their kids so
mark the date in your diary and come
and join us for a day of
fantastic, free,
family fun.

Marathon Visual Media
Radio Network’s Andrew Love said his media organisation was
the national sponsor of Children’s Day so it made sense to
continue to support the event in Tauranga as much as possible.
Another long time supporter of Children’s Day, Marathon Visual
Media continue to supply design and print expertise for the event.
Marathon came up with the funky Children’s Day logo and the
look and feel of the advertising. Check out their bright red posters
on display around the city.
“Children’s Day is a great way for families to take some time out
and enjoy old fashioned fun and entertainment. The neat thing
about it from our perspective is that it’s FREE and children can
enjoy a variety of entertainment over three hours,” he said.
Classic Hits will promote Children’s
Day in the lead up to the event and
will be acting as MCs on the day as
well as providing free drinks, balloons
and plenty of prizes.
