Zimbabwe Volunteer Project

Zimbabwe Volunteer Project
4 Weeks
Imagine serving the people of Africa, sharing the love of Christ, bringing hope to the destitute, and transforming your life
forever. Imagine a summer that propels you into a deeper walk with God, gives you greater confidence in making Him known
and begins friendships that will last a lifetime. On the YOUTH AND ORPHAN CARE PROJECT you will serve in vibrant and
colorful communities across the city. With an unemployment rate in excess of 85% and the lowest life expectancy in the
world, most of the population battles extreme poverty, unemployment and the devastating consequences of HIV/AIDS and
other social issues.

ORPHAN INITATIVES
We continue to maintain relationships
with those we have served in the past.
Below a number of the homes are
described. Your stay may involve some
level of interaction with them but they
are no longer the primary focus of our
volunteer program.

only two rooms that are about 2m x 2m,
made up of old scraps of plastic and
sticks. Children do not have school
benches or desks and a flattened
cardboard is used as a blackboard. Here

Accommodation
Our volunteer house is a comfortable and safe home shared with other volunteers during your time here. You may be required to share ablutions and bedroom with other volunteers of the same sex. All bedding is provided, unless there are a large
number of volunteers on the project simultaneously. Should you need to bring your own bedding, your project facilita- tor will
inform you nearer to the time of your arrival. All meals and transportation to and from your projects will be provided and
organised by your volunteer coordinator. Laundry is not included, but can be done for you at the project for a small fee. We
are also available to organize additional tourist activities, which will be at your own cost.
Meals
All meals will be provided for you by our staff during your stay at various houses, camps and while travelling between sites.
We do everything we can to provide for any dietary requirements, but we may have to ask you to bring some things with you.
If what you need is not available locally.
Weekend Excursions:
Sat 1: We travel 90 km East of the Capital City to a private game lodge called Chengeta Safari Lodge. Here we will
spend the day enjoying a buffet lunch and your choice of two pre-included activities (horse ride, clay pigeon
shooting, game drives, elephant interaction, etc).
Sat 2: We visit a number of markets in Harare, including ‘Doon Estate’, known for its souvenirs, traditional crafts,
artwork and pottery. This afternoon we will head north out of the city into rural communal land where we will
have a picnic supper at one of locals favorite sunset spots.
Last Week: An adventure awaits you, this morning we travel for 4 hours into the interior where we will be staying
in rooms at Antelope Park. Once settled in, our guide will talk us through some of the many activities on offer.
Antelope Park is world famous for its lion breeding program and was the base for the documentary series “Lion
Country”. The park is home to a wide variety of antelope and bird species. Pre-included in your stay is your choice
of one of the following activities – cub viewing, game drive, cub feeding, elephant interaction, horse safari and
carriage ride. Extra activities such as lion walks, sunset cruises, canoe use and elephant swims are optional.
