The Honorable Governor _____________

Dear Governor ____________:
Earlier this year, the not-for-profit American Eagle Foundation (AEF) of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee
sought your support in establishing “American Eagle Day” on June 20th 2015 in our great state
of ____________.
As a resident/residents of our great state of ____________, I, Miss Doe/we, Mr. and Mrs. Doe/we,
the Doe Family support and sponsor this “American Eagle Day” Proclamation request for June
20th, 2015 in our great state. Our son(s)/daughter(s) have written their own unique letters with
this request as well. They have been mailed to your office in conjunction to this letter.
As of June 20, 2014, Governors from 43 states have supported this national effort to establish
and celebrate “American Eagle Day” on June 20 by issuing special proclamations. In addition,
the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives have introduced and passed special
"American Eagle Day" resolutions annually beginning in 2007.
For over 200 years, the majestic Bald Eagle has served as our country’s living symbol of
freedom, spirit and democracy. It was selected as the U.S.A.’s official national emblem on
June 20, 1782 by the Second Continental Congress.
As you may know, the Department of Interior and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
removed the Bald Eagle from Endangered Species Act protection on June 28, 2007.
This special dedicated day on June 20 offers the American people a united opportunity to
celebrate the successful recovery of our National Bird to our lands, waterways and skies. It
also gives them good reason to commemorate the American ideals, values, qualities and
heritage that this precious National Treasure represents.
As soon as possible, we respectfully request that you proclaim “American Eagle Day” in our
state.
I/we the undersigned hereby implore you to issue the official American Eagle Foundation
“American Eagle Day” Sample Proclamation submitted along with this cover letter.
Thank you for your kind, patriotic and timely support of our special request.
Respectfully Yours,
