Outline of Features and Capabilities The Code Blue® I Life Monitoring System is to be used with selected Gaumard® CPR/Patient Care Simulators only. It was designed to help teach CPR simply and effectively by coaching the students through the training. It monitors cadence and depth of cardiac compression and airway ventilation The Code Blue® I Life Monitoring System is provided in three models: Adult Child Infant A manual from the American Heart Association is provided by Gaumard® with your CPR simulator. This system is to be used as a part of an approved CPR training program. A. Inventory Your S180 Code Blue® I Life Monitoring System includes the following: Item # 1 2 3 4 Quantity 1 1 1 Description Code Blue® I Life Monitoring System 9 Volt Battery Instruction Manual Copyright 2010 by Gaumard® Scientific. Connect the color-coded red and blue tubes provided with your simulator to the compression and ventilation ports on the rear of the monitor. 2. Insert Battery into the back of the monitor Copyright 2010 by Gaumard® Scientific. All rights reserved. 5 Instruction Manual S180 Code Blue® I Life Monitoring System B. Tones The pitched tones and lights are synchronized. The low tones indicate timing of lung ventilations. The higher tones indicate the timing of chest compressions. C. The Coach/Reset Switch Coach: Provides tone and light option to guide the student during training. Reset: Removes the tone allowing the student to practice proper ventilation and/or chest compression by monitoring progress only the bar graph. UP o To monitor Ventilation position the switch located on the back of the monitor labeled Adult, Child or Infant (depending on your model) to the up position o DOWN o To monitor compression position the switch located on the back of the monitor labeled Adult, Child or Infant (depending on your model) to the down position. D. Using the unit in Coach Mode When initiating the unit in Coach Mode, the monitor will provide two low tone beeps followed by the corresponding compression. On the second and following cycles, the monitor will provide the correct ventilation tone or tones, followed by the correct compression tones. The initial two tones are and indication that the monitor has registered the set parameters. E. Adult Lung Ventilation & Compression The monitor is designed to perform cycles: as two (2) ventilations followed by thirty (30) compressions. Note: The Adult switch provides the same amount of ventilations and compressions per cycle, whether in the toggle up or down position. When initiating the unit in Coach Mode, the monitor will provide two low tone beeps followed by the corresponding compression. On the second and following cycles, the monitor will provide the correct ventilation tone or tones, followed by the correct compression tones 6 Copyright 2010 by Gaumard® Scientific. Child Lung Ventilation & Compression The monitor is designed to perform as follows: When the Child switch is toggled up on the “Child Lay” position the ventilation cycles are two (2) ventilations followed by thirty (30) compressions. When the Child switch is toggle down on the “Child Expert position the ventilation cycles are two (2) ventilations followed by fifteen (15) compressions. Note: When switching from “Child Lay” to “Child Expert” or vice-versa you need to switch the Coach-Reset switch from Coach to Reset and back to Coach. Changes will not be effective unless this action is performed When initiating the unit in Coach Mode, the monitor will provide two low tone beeps followed by the corresponding compression. On the second and following cycles, the monitor will provide the correct ventilation tone or tones, followed by the correct compression tones G. Infant Lung Ventilation & Compression The monitor is designed to perform cycles as: one (1) ventilation followed by five (5) compressions. The Infant switch provides the same amount of ventilations and compressions per cycle, whether in the toggle up or down position. Note: The Infant switch provides the same amount of ventilations and compressions per cycle, whether in the toggle up or down position. When initiating the unit in Coach Mode, the monitor will provide two low tone beeps followed by the corresponding compression. On the second and following cycles, the monitor will provide the correct ventilation tone or tones, followed by the correct compression tones H. Training: Select the Coach/Reset switch to Coach, and turn on the monitor. The student will immediately see coaching lights and hear pitched tones. Once the student is familiar with the CPR sequence, the instructor should teach the proper amount of lung inflation and chest compression. Ask the student to ventilate the lungs. Now, ask the student to compress the chest. Copyright 2010 by Gaumard® Scientific. All rights reserved. 7 Instruction Manual S180 Code Blue® I Life Monitoring System I. NOTES: A. The Code Blue® I Life Monitoring System available with the simulator is programmed to be used with Adult, Child or Infant simulators. Newborns use the Infant model. B. Both the cycle and the timing of CPR for Adult, Child and Infant model are different. C. When changing modes, always switch from Coach to Reset and back to Coach. This resets the electronics and starts the timing sequence. D. While teaching the correct amount of lung inflation or chest compression, the instructor may elect to turn off the Tone and Light Option by switching to Reset. In this mode, the student can practice proper ventilation or chest compression by monitoring progress on the bar graph. Remember to stay in the green range. E. Insufficient chest compression will cause the bar graph to illuminate only in the yellow range. Too much compression will register in the red range, and may damage the patient’s ribs. Stay in the green range for both ventilations and compressions. F. The Code Blue® Life Monitoring System is powered by a conventional 9-volt battery. Note that the Low Battery indicator is next to the Power Switch. Remember to turn power off when monitor not in use. 8 Copyright 2010 by Gaumard® Scientific. All rights reserved.
