a decorative party collar

PET COLLAR
We all love our pets to join in the fun when there’s a special occasion.
Here’s a great decorative party collar to show off your dog or cat in style.
TOOLS NEEDED
CAT COLLAR
• 1M length of 1.5CM wide webbing
• 1M length of 1CM wide printed or woven ribbon
• 1M length 3CM wide ribbon
• Sewing Machine
• Pins
• Thread
• Hand-sewing needle
• 1.5CM Breakaway Buckle (try recycling a buckle
from your old cat collar). A breakaway clasp means
the collar will be designed to snap open quickly if
caught on anything – great for active cats who love
to play and explore!
• 1.5CM ‘D Ring’
• Eyelets & Tool
• Mallet or Hammer (for inserting eyelets)
• Hole Punch
DOG COLLAR
• 1M length of 2.5CM wide webbing
• 1M length 2CM wide printed or woven ribbon
• 1M length 5CM wide ribbon
• Sewing Machine
• Pins
• Thread
• Hand-sewing needle
• 2.5CM Buckle
• 2.5CM ‘D Ring’
• Eyelets & Tool
• Mallet or Hammer (for inserting eyelets)
• Hole Punch
1. Measure your pet’s neck, don’t pull
the tape too tight. Add 16CM to this
measurement and cut a piece of webbing
to this length. Carefully burn the ends
using a lighter, they should melt together
to prevent fraying.
2. Cut a piece of ribbon 10CM longer than
your webbing strap using pinking shears
to prevent fraying (if you do not have
pinking shears a dab of anti-fray product
or glue will do the job). Pin ribbon along
centre of webbing strap, turning under at
the ends to give a neat edge.
Whilst we’ve made every attempt to ensure that the crafts are safe for making and use, fit for purpose and safe for pets and animals, (not
limited to any specific species), it should be noted that NOAH, its partners, agents and suppliers shall not be held responsible for any
results, bodily harm or environment issues that may arise from making and using the craft instructions and will not be liable for any losses in
connection with the instructions and resulting crafts, including (without limitation) compensatory, direct, indirect or consequential damages,
loss of data, income or profit, loss of or damage to property and claims of third parties.

3. Stitch around the ribbon using a
standard straight stitch.
4. Check that you have caught the
underside of the ribbon with your
stitching.
5. Using a fabric pen mark a point 2CM
from the end of your strap in the centre
of the ribbon. Mark a further 2 holes 3CM
away from each other.
6. Punch holes using a tool slightly smaller
than the eyelets you have bought. Note: if
you don’t have a large enough tool punch
two holes side by side.

7. Push eyelets through the holes from the
front of the strap, place the washer on the
back and secure in place using your eyelet
tool and a mallet or hammer.
8. At the other end of your webbing strap
punch a hole 6CM from the end. This will
be for your buckle.
9. Slide the buckle over webbing / ribbon
strap and push the prong in the centre
through your pre punched hole.
NOTE – For the cat collar attach the
breakaway buckle in the same way.
10. Fold the end of the strap back and
place into the machine. Stitch a line as
close to the buckle as possible, backstitch
over the same line, repeat twice so that
you are left with a thick row of stitches that
attached the buckle securely in place.
11. Slide the D Ring onto your webbing
strap and push as close to your line of
stitching as possible.

12. Place the strap into the machine and
make a 1.5CM box stitch to hold the end
of the strap in place.
13. Cut one length of ribbon 24CM long
and a second 34CM long. Use pinking
shears to stop the ends from fraying or
apply a little anti-fray product.
14. Using a running stitch tack the ends
together to create a loop. Backstitch a
couple of times at either end to prevent
the stitches from coming undone.
15. Pinch the ribbon together in the centre
and stitch through the back to secure in
place. Try to make two even folds within
your pinch.

16. Attach your two ribbons together at
the back with a few hand stitches.
17. Snip the larger bottom ribbon so that
one end is approx. 2CM longer than the
other.
18. Fold your ribbon ends in half
lengthways and cut diagonally across
for a decorative ‘V’ shaped finish. Dab a
little anti-fray product along each edge to
prevent fraying.

19. Fold a 5CM length of ribbon in half
length-ways. Wrap around centre of bow
with ends overlapping, trim off any excess.
20. Secure in place with a few handstitches.
21. Hand sew your bow onto the centre of
the collar using a double thread.
