Aztec Athletics
Dear Aztec Fans,
We have just concluded one of the greatest years in
Aztec Athletic history. Our basketball teams won an
unprecedented 50 games between them and both made
incredible post-season runs. Our baseball and softball
teams had terrific seasons and garnered NCAA Tournament
berths. Stephen Strasburg was the National Player of the
Year in college baseball. Men’s Golf and Women’s Tennis
both made their usual trips to the NCAA Tournament. Water
Polo was highly ranked throughout the season. Swim Coach
Mike Shrader was named Mountain West Conference Coach
of the Year. Both soccer teams had solid seasons and will be even better next
year. And Coach Brady Hoke and his staff have made an incredible impression in
the very short time they have been on the Mesa.
We had our greatest academic year ever. 223 of our 525 student-athletes were
honored as Scholar-Athletes (3.0 GPA or better), and our APR and graduation
rates were the highest they have ever been.
We have great people – both coaches and staff; people who make a difference in
the lives of our student-athletes. They are wonderful teachers who are bright and
driven, and care so much about the kids.
I think we all feel the excitement of San Diego State Athletics. We hope that you
will make a difference by coming to our events and supporting our programs
with your generosity. We have put together this brochure to provide you all the
information you need about this year’s events and how to support our programs.
Whether your interest is buying tickets, donating money, becoming an Aztec
sponsor or simply finding out what’s going on, this brochure can guide you.
Thanks so much for your support, and we look forward to having you with us as
we strive for excellence in all we do!
Go Aztecs!

Aztec Athletic Foundation (AAF)
Since 1948, alumni, friends and fans of San Diego State University
have been providing private financial support to Aztec Athletics.
From early beginnings as the “Aztec Angels”, that effort has evolved
into what is now known as the Aztec Athletic Foundation (AAF).
AAF members are enthusiastic and loyal. Through their
unrestricted annual contributions, members ensure that studentathletes in SDSU’s 18 Division I sports programs receive a quality
education by helping to offset their educational expenses.
As a special and spirited part of the Aztec team, AAF members
also receive priority seating opportunities for Aztec Football and
Men and Women’s Basketball as well as invitations to unique Aztec
events and activities throughout the year. We invite you to join the
team, a team that we refer to in our annual fund drive campaign
as Team Aztec Pride.

staff and postgame sessions. Members also receive media guides, an invitation
to a preseason practice and additional benefits depending on their level of giving.
Annual membership ranges from $50 to $1,000+ annually.
Sport Specific giving groups
There are ways you can support Aztec athletic teams in addition to an annual
membership in the Aztec Athletic Foundation. Sport specific giving groups
provide the opportunity for restricted donations that provide financial
assistance for special projects, educational expenses and/or endowed
scholarships. Sport specific giving opportunities at SDSU include:
RBI Club-Baseball
RBI Club members provide restricted support to Aztec baseball and are invited
to in-season no-host luncheons featuring Head Coach, Tony Gwynn. Members
also receive a media guide and depending on level of giving, a team autographed
baseball. Annual membership ranges from $50 to $150+ annually.
ERA Club-Softball
ERA Club members provide restricted support to Aztec softball. Depending on
their level of giving, members receive media guides, newsletters, apparel and
season tickets. Annual membership ranges from $50 to $500+ annually.

Special Partnerships
Aztec Athletics is proud to partner with the SDSU Alumni Association on a
number of initiatives. From combined membership opportunities to co-hosting
travel, to Aztec athletic events and special functions, both organizations work
closely together to provide service to Aztec alumni, friends and fans throughout
the year.
Former Aztec Student-Athletes – Remain Aztecs for Life
We invite all former Aztec student-athletes to solidify their “legacy” by joining the
athletic focused chapter programs offered through Aztec Athletics and the SDSU
Alumni Association. Your chapter based membership through the SDSU Alumni
Association covers your participation fees and is available at both an annual and
life membership rate. For more information, please contact the SDSU Alumni
Association at 619-594-2586 (ALUM) or online at www.sdsualumni.org.
How to make a donation to support
Aztec Athletics
Methods of Giving
Direct Contribution
Return payment by check (made payable to Aztec Athletic Foundation), credit
card (Visa, Master Card or American Express) or cash. Automatic checking or
credit card withdrawals are available as well as bi-annual, quarterly and monthly
payment plans. Online donations can be made at www.goaztecs.com.
Matching Gifts
Many companies match their employees’ gifts to support colleges and
universities. If matched, your AAF benefits level will equal the total of your
contribution plus the match. Not all companies match gifts to athletics. Please
verify your company’s policy.
Other Ways to Give
The AAF also accepts gifts of securities, real properties, gifts-in-kind (including
use of automobiles and catering), endowments and planned gifts. Please contact
the AAF office for additional information.
Giving Policy
Donations received by the AAF are non-refundable and membership benefits are
non-transferable.

An “unrestricted” gift to Aztec Athletics is one which is used at the discretion
of the Athletic Department to cover the educational expenses of SDSU studentathletes. Priority seating contributions are “unrestricted”. A “restricted” gift is
designated by the donor for a specific purpose, often through a sport specific
group such as the Big 50, Big 64, Full Court Press Club, RBI Club or ERA Club.
What is the Director’s Cabinet?
The Director’s Cabinet is an exclusive group of business and civic leaders
committed to the success of Aztec Athletics through private gifts in support of
Aztec student-athletes and who can provide advice and counsel to the Director
of Athletics. Director’s Cabinet members are entitled to exclusive benefits and
activities. Membership requires a $25,000 annual donation, tax deductible minus
benefits received. For additional information, please contact the Aztec Athletic
Foundation Office at 619-594-6444.
Does my unrestricted gift to the Aztec Athletic Foundation qualify
me for priority seating in Qualcomm Stadium and Viejas Arena?
Yes, an unrestricted gift to the Aztec Athletic Foundation at a giving level
associated with priority seating benefits will qualify you for priority seating in
designated areas of Qualcomm Stadium and/or Viejas Arena. Required donations
vary by seating location and number of seats desired.
Is my gift to Aztec Athletics tax deductible?
Yes, gifts made to Aztec Athletics are tax deductible. The amount of your deduction
equals the gift minus the value of membership benefits received. To qualify for a
tax deduction that is equal to the full amount of your donation, you must decline all
benefits.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between “unrestricted” and “restricted” gifts?
Gifts made in association with priority seating benefits are subject to the 1988 Tax Law,
allowing for an 80% deduction after the value of all benefits received is subtracted
from the original gift. We recommend you consult with a tax advisor regarding the
deductibility of your gift in relation to tickets
purchased and benefits received.
