Year 2 Curriculum Map: Summer Term 1 2016
Welcome back to another fantastic half term in Year 2 at Upton Snodsbury C of E First
School. Last term, the children had lots of fun in our topic about castles and I’m sure that you
will agree that they did superb in our class performance of ‘Once Upon a Time’. Thank you to
all, for making such an effort with costumes and support with lines and lyrics. I’m sure that
the next seven weeks will be a fun and productive half term for us all. We will continue to
encourage the children to become more independent and to persevere in their learning and
with your help we hope that we can achieve this.
Things to remember:
Year 2 Statutory Tests – Week beginning May 16th and May 23rd 2016
Homework:
This gives an opportunity for you to become more involved in your child’s education and
reinforces work done in school.
1. Reading - Please hear your child read every day as this really does make a difference
to their progress. Reading diaries will be checked weekly to encourage children to have a
sticker for their bookmarks. So remember to keep your reading diaries up to date, even
if the children are writing the name of the book they have read. Children are
responsible for changing their own reading books and may do so on a daily basis. Each
child’s reading target is in their home reading record.
2. Spellings – Please find your child’s spelling list in their home reading record each week.
These will be sent home on a Monday and tested in random order on Friday. Remember
when the children are learning spellings they need to be able to spell them correctly in
their writing and not just for the test, so look over previous spellings to help keep them
fresh.
3. ACHIEVE Books – For homework, children are asked to complete one page from both
the Reading and Mathematics books weekly. Pages highlighted in yellow on the contents
page of Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling can be completed at any time as these have
all been taught. Children will have a star on their weekly spellings to show what page can
now be completed in this book. The books will be checked on every other week.
4. English and Math’s summer term targets can now be found in their home reading record.
PE - Gymnastics will be on a Monday (shorts, white T Shirt and pumps). PE kit should be
kept in school all half term.
Swimming will take place on Tuesday afternoons from the 26th April until 5th July 2016.
Children will need to bring a towel, swimming costume and a swimming hat (if they have long
hair). Goggles can also be worn (letter to follow).
Forest School is on a Thursday afternoon and wellies, waterproofs and old, warm clothes
will need to be in school.
Thank you for your support. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to come and see
me.
Yours sincerely,
Miss Jones
