Note
From
Mr
Easton…
What a term it has been, we
have seen many developments
within York Campus and have
much to look forward to. As the
term commenced we opened the
newly refurbished learning
centre to support the ongoing
commitment to self-directed
learning, with a wide range of
subjects providing learners with
SDL assignments over the course
of the half term. To increase
SDL capacity at York Campus
we
have
had
students
redesigning
a
traditional
classroom and creating an
additional SDL space as part of
the
national
classroom
competition.
This project was completed over
the summer holiday by students,
with the support of community
members, we await the results of
the competition and thank those
involved for their commitment to
the project.The commitment to
SDL continues with each learner
in year 7 and year 8 having
access to a personal laptop for
independent research and
development
of
learning
projects.
We have now
extended this provision with
York Campus piloting new ICT
resource with a laptop provided
for each year 9, 10 and 11
student, these will be available
ahead of schedule after the half
term break.
These laptops will be available
to use on a day to day basis on
site but will provide an
invaluable learning resource.
As many of you know there has
been a significant development
in
Springwell
with
the
construction of the learning
centre. The commitment to this
development and subsequent
outcome can only be described
as exceptional with students
very excited about the prospect
of working there in the near
future.
On 22 September, we held the annual Dragon’s Den
event. The year 12 students where put through the
daunding experience of presenting their business pitch
to the team of Dragons.
Tristan Mallinson Richard Trevvett Mark Bailey
The Dragons where presented with a variety of business
ideas, from vibrating alarm clocks to bike holders.
Congratulations to Pierre, Riley and Hayden for being the
winners for this year!

LEARNING CENTRE
During the summer holidays there have been some excellent improvements made to our new learning centre. Not only have the walls been
painted white to freshen everywhere up, but new lighting has been installed and a door built to the outdoor SDL area. And that’s not all! See
below for some more exciting changes that have been happening. We’d also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that put so much
effort, time and money into making these improvements, it is greatly appreciated. Watch this space though….there’s still more to come!
Brand new white tables, both
long oval and small circles
Fins built just inside the door seperate

New glass wall built
in the extra IT area
to facilitate for a

SPRINGWELL nearly there….
The new learning centre in Springwell has welcomed its first student’s this week as part of an induction. The centre
based in the North East of England, under the leadership of Focus School York Campus, has been designed to allow
students in the area to receive their education closer to home. Housed on its own grounds and refurbished to the
highes standards the centre will be home to students from Y3 toY13. Students will be on site for up to three days per
week, with two days in York. To allow for structured distance learning the centre has been equipped with state of the
art VC mobile units. This technology will work alongside the Moodle VLE, and flipped learning mehodologies, and on
site specialised staff who will be available to assist in the student learning process. The aim is to give the students at
Springwell the same quality of teaching and learning as their peers at York. For further details contact Mr Paul Easton
Head Teacher, York Campus.

I would personally like to thank all involved for this effort and look forward to working with
you all as we develop this into an outstanding provision for the years ahead.

For your info…..
We will be celebrating the success of our learners on the 4th
November at our presentation day. You should by now have
received an invitation to the event. We have some exceptional
results to celebrate on the day so I hope you are able to join us.
The presentation day will commence from 10.30am. A summary
of examination outcomes are available on the school website,
under examinations. I would like to reiterate how pleased I was
with many of the outcomes for our learners.
