Focus School York Campus Step into the Dragons Den Art Gallery Focus School York Campus SDL & Springwell makeover Note From Mr Easton… What a term it has been, we have seen many developments within York Campus and have much to look forward to. As the term commenced we opened the newly refurbished learning centre to support the ongoing commitment to self-directed learning, with a wide range of subjects providing learners with SDL assignments over the course of the half term. To increase SDL capacity at York Campus we have had students redesigning a traditional classroom and creating an additional SDL space as part of the national classroom competition. This project was completed over the summer holiday by students, with the support of community members, we await the results of the competition and thank those involved for their commitment to the project. The commitment to SDL continues with each learner in year 7 and year 8 having access to a personal laptop for independent research and development of learning projects. We have now extended this provision with York Campus piloting new ICT resource with a laptop provided for each year 9, 10 and 11 student, these will be available ahead of schedule after the half term break. These laptops will be available to use on a day to day basis on site but will provide an invaluable learning resource. As many of you know there has been a significant development in Springwell with the construction of the learning centre. The commitment to this development and subsequent outcome can only be described as exceptional with students very excited about the prospect of working there in the near future. On 22 September, we held the annual Dragon’s Den event. The year 12 students where put through the daunding experience of presenting their business pitch to the team of Dragons. Tristan Mallinson Richard Trevvett Mark Bailey The Dragons where presented with a variety of business ideas, from vibrating alarm clocks to bike holders.
