The following instructions describe how to create Multiple Choice

The following instructions describe how to create Multiple Choice Questions in Respondus. This
documentation assumes you are familiar with how to open Respondus and navigate using the
Respondus menus.
1. Open Respondus.
2. On the Start menu tab,

Click Open to open an existing Respondus exam file to add questions to OR

Click Create to start creating a new Respondus exam file.
3. Click the Edit menu tab.
4. Select the Multiple Choice option from the menu on the left.
5. Type in a short, descriptive title for your question (e.g. “Author” for a question about the
author of a certain novel).
6. Type in the exact question wording. Check the Randomize answers box if you want
Respondus to randomize the answers for every student (i.e. if you want each student to
be presented with a different order of answers to mitigate cheating).

You can add images and equations using Respondus’s built-in editing tools.
7. Type in the answers for A, B, C, D, etc.... Each question can have up to 20 possible
answers (A-T).

Click General Feedback to provide a standard feedback response no matter
what option the student selects as their response. You can type in a Correct
Answer Reply and/or an Incorrect Answer Reply.

Check the Feedback box to enable individual feedback for each question (e.g.,
you could point out why each incorrect response is wrong).
8. Select the correct answer from the dropdown list.
9. Type in a point value for the question. NOTE: You cannot assign partial credit for a
response that is “close” to the correct response. It is all or nothing on a question.
10. Click Preview to look at your question again.
11. Add the question to your exam by choosing one of two options:

Click Add to End of List to add the question to the end of your Respondus
Exam OR

Click Insert into List to put the question somewhere in your exam other than the
end.
12. Repeat steps 4-11 for each multiple choice question you want to add to your exam.
13. Click Save

The bottom frame of the Respondus window displays the list of questions you have created for
that exam file. To modify an existing question, follow these steps:
1. Scroll through the list of questions until you find the question you want to edit.
2. Click on the
button next to the title of the question. Then, click Edit.
3. Make any necessary changes then click Save Changes OR click Cancel Changes to
exit the question without saving any of the changes you have made.

Click Preview to review any of the changes you have made.
