This region is Canada’s
most important economic
engine, generating twothirds of Ontario’s and
one-quarter of Canada’s
Gross Domestic Product.
Key economic clusters
include financial services,
information technology
and telecommunications,
automotive, food and
beverage, biomedical
and biotechnology, and
aerospace. The Greater
Golden Horseshoe region is one of the top
three economic clusters in North America for
the food and beverage industry.
The region’s 32,000 square kilometres
includes some of Canada’s most productive
farmland, as well as world-renowned natural
features, like the Niagara Escarpment, the
Greenbelt, and the Oak Ridges Moraine.
