The program was titled “Graduate Education Thesis vs. Non-thesis Scholarly Activity: Moving the Profession Forward” Volunteer panelists: Michelle Darby (ODU),(Unable to attend – her presentation was delivered by JoAnn) Nancy William (UTM) and JoAnn Gurenlian (Idaho State) Panel Moderator: Shannon Mitchell (UNC) Abbreviated Session Abstract: With new dental hygiene master programs opening in a variety of formats, online or onsite, and candid discussions concerning scholarly activities in these programs, the purpose of this panel discussion is to present a variety of scholarly activities and provide examples of each. Scholarly activity such as thesis/research projects have been considered the traditional format for master of science programs, however other activities such as capstone projects, documented case studies, book chapters and others are considered forms of scholarship. Getting these projects to publication or to present at national meetings is extremely important for developing the profession, but can be daunting. The session will include a panel discussion and workshop for graduate students, dental and dental hygiene faculty who are currently mentoring graduate students or see themselves in that role at their institution A SIG business meeting was held on March 18, 2013. Attendance 27, including Tami J. Grzesikowski, Senior Director for Allied Dental Education, ADEA, Rebecca Van Horn RDH, BA, Scientific Relations Manager, Mid Atlantic.
