Volume 2 Bobcat News Issue 12 Our monthly PTSO meeting will be Thursday night at 6 pm in the HAMS cafeteria. Come out and see what is happening with our school. Dr. Cullen will be joining us. Come help us give him a HAMS welcome! Trunk or Treat will be 10/24 from 6-8 pm We will have food trucks, lots of candy and a haunted house! HAMS’ Dad Club is building a haunted house in the cafeteria and will charge $1 admission. Food trucks will sell food and donate a percentage of the proceeds back to the PTSO Each class will have an opportunity to sign up for a spot to decorate a trunk and give out candy Don’t forget your costumes!! PTSO members will receive one free admission to the haunted house with the purchase of one admission. You must show your PTSO card for discount. Park at Alonso and take the shuttle. The parking lot will be closed for the safety of our students. After care will park by the basketball courts and pick up through the front on that day. We ask that kids only visit each trunk once, to ensure everyone has a chance for goodies! April 10, 2014 We would like to Welcome Dr. Cullen to HAMS! He comes to us from Bell Creek Academy where he was the assistant principal. Prior to his time at BCA he served as Principal Designate for New York City Charter High School. At NYCHS, Dr. Cullen was responsible for teacher evaluations, curriculum review and evaluations and data analysis. He earned his Education Doctorate with a Specialization in Curriculum and Instruction in 2011. He has a Master of Arts in educational Leadership and Supervision and a Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in Social Studies. He is certified by the State of Florida in Education Leadership. He has been a classroom teacher and administrator and looks forward to reinforcing Charter School Associates’ commitment to teacher development and support at HAMS. Dr. Cullen enjoys watching all sports, but especially the Pittsburg Steelers, the Penguins and the Manchester United. He likes watching college football but doesn't have a favorite team. He likes to travel and go on cruises. He has been married for 2.5 years and lived in Florida only a short time. Dr. Cullen is excited to be at HAMS and looks forward to working with the staff, children and parents to make it the best school around! Have you volunteered at the school? If so, be sure to log your hours on the PTSO website. You must complete the free registration for the website. Then go to the Track Volunteer Hours tab. You will go to the date you volunteered and enter the number of hours. Be sure to include the activity you did and your child’s name in the note field. If you signed up to volunteer through the PTSO website, the hours are automatically tracked. Be sure to check the PTSO website for volunteer opportunities! Current volunteer needs include: Book Inventory Lunchroom Help Dad’s Club as been busy working on the Haunted House! Be sure to visit the Haunted House during Trunk or Treat. There will be Middle School students working with Dad’s Club to be characters in the Haunted House. Each admission is $1 PTSO members will get buy one get one price for admission Calling all photographers! We are looking for people to help take pictures at school events to be used in the yearbook. Pictures taken with cell phones won’t work. If you attend a school event and bring your camera, please upload them to the yearbook site. To submit photos to the yearbook staff, go to community.lifetouch.com and register with the following access code: TXQHRB Please include a description of what each photo is so that committee members can ensure photos make it to the right section of the yearbook Ms. Davis is a 1st grade teacher at HAMS. She is a recent graduate of Southeastern University in Lakeland, FL. She graduated Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She has endorsements in Reading and ESOL. She was on the Southeastern’s women’s soccer team for 4 years. She was born and raised in Marianna, Florida. When not teaching, she enjoys spending time with family and friends. Her favorite hobbies include going to the gym, coaching soccer, playing video games and going to the lake. She believes every child can reach great potential with the proper facilitator. When given the right opportunities and tools, all child can be successful learners. She is a firm believer in making learning fun and engaging in order to instill a lifelong love of learning. Her goal is to work with students and parents to maintain a strong learning environment. She knows that working together will result in a successful year in 1st grade. Mr. Brown teaches 5th grade. He was born and raised in Tampa. He recently graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with ESOL endorsement. He is working on completing his Reading Endorsement. In his free time he enjoys reading, playing basketball and socializing with friends. He strongly believes in helping ensure all students feel safe, respected and successfully in his classroom through specific praise, conferences and recognition of quality work. When students know they are valued, their learning is more meaningful. Along with social/emotional goals, he will strive to help them develop into life-long learners through high level questions and authentic problem solving task. He expects to work cooperatively with students and parents in order to maintain a supportive learning environment HAMS is looking for a variety of people interested in spending some time talking about their careers with the students.
