The Lightning Thief Final Project

The Lightning Thief Final Project
The Final Project for
The Lightning Thief i
s a culmination of all of the work we did while we read the book. When you read the book you answered questions, took notes in the book, and highlighted important information. Feel free to use your Chapter Question answers, notes, and your book to do the Final Assignment. The Final Assignment consists of two parts; Part A and Part B. Within those two parts you will have choices. PART A (Due Monday, May 9th) Choose one topic for your final paper. Your paper needs to be a minimum of two pages typed, 12 point font, double spaced, Times New Roman Font. Create a Heading to your paper with your name on it. Submit your paper on Google Docs to Mr. Martin. Your paper needs to have your own thoughts and opinions and several pieces of evidence (quotes with page numbers) from the text. Your essay should include original thoughts, not just a copy and paste from your previous work. Your answers from the chapters should help you expand your essay, whether it is choice 1 or choice 2. Choice 1
Percy Jackson followed the typical “Hero’s Journey” in this story. Write a paper showing how Percy fit into the typical twelve part “Hero’s Journey.” Feel free to use the documents about the “Hero’s Journey” on Mr. Martin’s website. You can also include comparisons from Percy’s journey to other Heroes in literature. Choice 2
On page 1 of the book it asks you to, “recognize yourself in these pages.” Write a paper to show how you recognize yourself in this book. You may recognize yourself in Percy’s actions, the events of the book, or any other way possible. Make those connections and “see yourself” in the pages of the book! (Hint: we have been documenting this throughout the entire book; use those previous answers!) PART B (Due Friday, May 13th) This is the “Arts Integration” aspect of the project. Choose one project from the list below. To manage your time better in class, please complete Part 1 of the assignment before moving on to Part 2. You may do both projects at home as well. Choice 1

Fold a poster board the long way. Cut flaps for different sections. On the top part of the flap place a picture and label for that part of the Underworld. Open the flap and write a description, use evidence from the text, and you may add other pictures as well. Make sure that your map of the Underworld goes in the correct order according to the findings in the book. Or, you can create a regular poster board sized map with flaps in the specific locations on the map. Choice 2
Lightning Thief Board Game
Create a board game that goes along with the book. It should be colorful and utilize parts of the book. IT MUST INCLUDE: 20 Question Cards (with answers and page numbers), one colorful board, game pieces (that you create), a box with pictures, and a rule book with detailed procedures. Choice 3
