Answers on P. 12 9 Fire Chief Guest Speaker on February 11 Fire Chief James Broderick will be the guest speaker on Mon. Feb. 11, following the Valentine Luncheon. In a letter below the Chief explains the Grant he has obtained to give eligible seniors new smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors free of charge. All seniors are welcome, the program begins at 1 PM at the Council at 39 Central St. January 8, 2008 In fiscal year 2006 the Rowley Fire Department received a grant from the federal government to replace self contained breathing apparatus and to purchase a new air compressor and filling station for filling these units. During the procurement phase the actual cost of this equipment was less than what was in the grant award. The federal government would rather the money be used for a fire safety program than be sent back to them. The department then had to file an amendment to its grant application to reflect this, it was decided to develop a program to be geared to a segment of the community that is at risk for an emergency in case of a fire. A fire safety program geared to elderly homeowners was the result of this grant amendment. On February 11, 2008 at 12:30 PM, after the Valentine Noon Meal, at the Rowley Council on Aging the Rowley Fire Department will present a fire safety program geared to senior citizen homeowners, this program will consist of several short video presentations with a question and answer period after each video. The areas of discussion will be smoke detectors, carbon monoxide, and home fire safety. After the presentation the department will be issue smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors to each senior home owner that attends the presentation. These detectors will be issued on a first come first serve basis, until they are exhausted. If you have any questions please contact Fire Chief James Broderick at 978-948-3812.
