The musical tells the story of Christine Daaé, a beautiful soprano of the French opera company Opéra Populaire who becomes the object of affection of the opera house's phantom. She becomes torn between her love for Raoul, the Viscount of Chagny, and the irresistible mysterious Phantom, who forces her to choose between himself and Raoul in a dramatic showdown at the end of the musical. The Phantom of the Opera premiered on the West End in 1986 and opened on Broadway in 1988 to unprecedented critical and commercial success. To date, it is the longest running show in Broadway history (more than 11,000 performances and counting!), and it is the highest grossing piece of entertainment in history with more than $6 billion in revenue (surpassing the films Titanic, Avatar, ET, Star Wars, and Frozen)! Phantom received ten Tony Award nominations and won seven for Best Musical, Best Leading Actor (Michael Crawford as The Phantom), Best Featured Actress (Judy Kaye as Carlotta Giudicelli), Best Direction, Best Scenic Design, Best Costume Design, and Best Lighting Design. The song "Think of Me" appears early in the musical's first act. It is first sung by Opéra Populaire's leading soprano Carlotta Giudicelli in their production of the fictional opera Hannibal, Il Muto. When a backdrop on the stage collapses as she is singing, Carlotta is convinced The Phantom exists and refuses to perform. The cast members suggested that Christine Daaé, a young Swedish chorus girl, could take Carlotta's place. Christine begins to sing the song timidly, but gains confidence throughout and is offered Carlotta's role. This arrangement is an excerpt of the song. It is a short, sight-readable arrangement that teachers and students can easily perform in a lesson, class, or performance setting. "Think of Me" will be performed on Masterworks 3 by Canadian soprano Rebecca Caine. for the NSO "Symphony Goes to School...and beyond!"
