Parks for All
Strategic Framework
Facilitators’ Guide
Page 1
Session Process
This facilitator’s guide for sessions about Parks for All follows the questions of the online
survey in the same order, which will allow an easier analysis and ensure consistency in
the results.
Facilitating
The guidelines presented here are only suggestions. Please use whatever methods
which are effective for you and the group. The guide also includes a short suggested
script.
Depending on the size of the group, the session should take between 45–60 minutes.
Recording Results
Appendix A includes a suggested format for recording feedback and comments. Please
provide those results to Heather Stewart, Sage Transitions at
[email protected], as soon as possible after the session. If you can
photograph or scan each page and send the results to her, that would be most helpful.
If you have any questions, Heather may be reached at 250-212-6960 by text or phone,
or at the email above.

Facilitators’ Guide
The parks and protected areas community, co-led by the Canadian Parks and
Recreation Association (CPRA) and the Canadian Parks Council (CPC) has been
working since 2015 to develop a Parks for All Strategic Framework and engage the
broader community in its design and implementation.
This framework is intended to build on a shared vision, define guiding principles,
strategic directions, and priorities, and implement a bold and coordinated strategy for
Canada's network of parks and protected areas.
Facilitator: I’m here today to obtain your comments about facets of the Strategic
Framework. My name is xx, and I’m with (association or group). I’m going to guide you
through a series of questions. I will be recording (or xx will be noting your feedback). If
you would like to contribute in other ways, you may email me after the session (provide
email info).
I’ll give you details about all the other ways to comment at the end of this session.
I’ve provided you with digital copies of the Parks for All Strategic Framework and the
Parks for All Backgrounder.
This session will focus on two areas of feedback: content and implementation. We will
not do any “wordsmithing” today, as our time is limited.
Note to Facilitator: If possible, you need to ensure that everyone attending has received the two documents in
advance or has had time to review them before the start of any discussion.

Content Questions
Facilitator: You want to begin the discussion by receiving some general responses to this question, and then move
the group to consider their level of agreement. The Likert scale may not be effective in the group, but it may help in
understanding where group members are on the scale.
Because there are three separate elements here, you will ideally receive responses on each of them: clear, bold
and inspirational.
1. To what degree would you agree or disagree that the Parks for All Strategic
Framework is:
Strongly
Moderately
Slightly

Facilitator: As with the previous question there are four distinct aspects to refine the participants’ level of
agreement with elements of the framework.

Facilitator:
• Guide the group to review these pages in the Strategic Framework and discuss the diagram that shows the
inter-connectedness of strategic directions and precedes the list of Strategic Directions.
• Then move to each of the Strategic Directions and their brief descriptions, and ask for feedback.
• It may be challenging to review Strategic Directions before or while considering priorities and sub-priorities,
and attempting to do this in a linear way may be difficult. You may want to consider these five questions on a
flip chart or screen, and record the comments on each as they’re provided.
3. Can you think of any Strategic Directions that are missing from the Parks for All
Strategic Framework? (The four Strategic Directions are Conserve, Connect,
Collaborate and Lead)
4. Did you see any Strategic Directions that should not be in the Parks for All
Strategic Framework? (The four Strategic Directions are Conserve, Connect,
Collaborate and Lead).
5. Can you think of any Priorities that are missing from the Parks for All Strategic
Framework? (The Priorities are sub-headings under each Strategic Direction)
6. Did you see any Priorities that should not be in the Parks for All Strategic
Framework? (The Priorities are sub-headings under each Strategic Direction)

Implementation questions
Facilitator: This part of the discussion provides an opportunity to discuss how individuals or organizations may be
able to implement parts of the Strategic Framework.
Ideally, participants can be prompted to discuss specific ways they can see implementing parts of the Framework,
or how they may share it and persuade their colleagues to support and implement facets of the Framework.
1. Would you be able to develop an implementation strategy based on the Parks for All
Strategic Framework?
2. Would your organization be able to development an implementation strategy based
on the Parks for All Strategic Framework?
3. Can you provide example(s) of ways you or your organization may be able to
support implementation
4. Will you endorse this Parks for All Strategic Framework?
Facilitator: if there are participants who are prepared to endorse the framework or would like to discuss it further,
note these results and commit to complete whatever follow-up is necessary.
5. Will your organization endorse this Parks for All Strategic Framework?
6. Can you recommend any other person or organization that may endorse it? If so,
may we have their contact information?
Other comments
Facilitator: This will provide a means to close the session, and have a more general discussion. At the close of the
session thank all for attending and providing feedback.
1. Do you have any additional comments or recommendations about the Parks for All
Strategic Framework?
Facilitator: You may also want to allow participants to record their suggestions on flip charts for everyone to see or
provide post-it notes or paper for participants to write their comments and leave them with you.

Facilitators’ Summary of Results
The following set of tables provides a way to record feedback throughout the session.
Session leaders can print off the “Results” tables and write their comments on them
during the session or use them on a digital platform.
The range of responses is intended as a guide to recording. If you find it easier to
record them using only the notes function, please do so.
For ease of analysis and reporting, follow the order of the questions. Please scan or
photograph your handwritten results or send your digital versions to Heather Stewart at
[email protected] or via cell at 250-212-6960, as soon as possible after the
completion of your session. Page 7
